Roque Santa Cruz revealed just how pleased he is to be back on the field after his 73 minute appearance for City in their 4-0 win over Limerick.

City’s Paraguayan hitman had only featured for the Elite Development Squad this pre-season but he partnered Edin Dzeko for the first team in Ireland on Sunday night.

“There are a couple of players who haven’t played so much this pre-season so it was good to have a game and build up some match fitness,” said Santa Cruz.

Nigel de Jong ran the midfield during the hour he played, while Roque Santa Cruz was twice denied by the woodwork.

I think he will be in the final year of his contract , I think he's on £90k a week.

I'm surprised no one will take a punt on him and share the wages with us.

Never done it for us but I remember him doing us one Xmas with 2 good goals for Blackburn.

Feel a bit sorry for Crocky. He seems a really genuine guy. He can't help his abysmal injury record or the fact that Hughes spunked £17m on him - money that could have been invested more astutely in the Nigerian lottery. Such a totally foreseeable waste, too.

However he MUST move on and I wish him good luck. Unlike some blood-suckers, he wants to play football for his living rather than wank himself silly for £4m - £9m a year.

Nice guy.

Good player.

Just a shame he's a crock, i wish him nothing but the best though.

Probably putting his best game face for the season. He's probably just dying to get on the field. I know I would. Though he may not see much work this season. I wish the best for him.

He'll come on in the 85th minute on Sunday with the score at 1-1 and score a hat-trick. Then he'll go off with a torn hamstring on 91 mins. Never to be seen in a Manchester City shirt again...

Who are the reserves playing Sunday? ;)
