Ross Barkley

Strange one really as Everton are precisely his level at the moment, he's a local lad and they have lofty ambitions. The raw ingredients seem to be there but he just hasn't progressed enough in recent years. Not sure he'd nail a starting place week in week out at any teams above Everton so it would make sense for him to sign a new contract and apply himself there.

Comparisons with Yaya? He's not fit to lace the boots of the man that laces Yaya's boots.

Slightly worrying to log in to the transfer forum and see Barkley top of the threads! Not a bad player at all but I couldn't see him fitting into our midfield.

ability wise he is one of the most talented players in the league of his generation, its just the application just hasn't been there. 12/18 months a lot on here would love to have had him in our squad - you don't lose that quality in a few months.

if he could sort himself out, and a move away from there is the obvious way to do it, then I think he still has time to fulfil his potential

Also crazy thing is the Sanchez comparison, and it's one that doesn't help us, in that Everton want £50mil for him with 12 months left on his contract - if they got that figure imagine the leverage it gives Arsenal in comparative purposes - I know Barkley is much younger but Sanchez is 10x the player.

Much rather have Foden in the squad that this guy. Very over rated and the odd golden moment can't make up for his general deficiencies. Would be little more than another Delph with us methinks.
Not sure how much the Blue Dippers can expect for him even in this crazy market.

Now this signing would 100% be a middle finger to the Academy. If City are splashing £30M+ on players of Barkley's caliber to fill a squad role then the youth players will feel they're at a complete dead end. Phil Foden, Brahim and Sancho all have better fundamentals than Barkley, he just had the fortune of size on his side as a young lad so could hang physically with the adults. Would be a terrible signing for us, let Spurs splash out on yet another mediocre attack player.

Aren't Pep and Keoman Bessie mates from their time playing together at Barcelona and known to share a similar philosophy on football? If Koeman spent most of last season briefing the press on Barkley's shortcomings I seriously doubt Pep would want him.
