Roundabouts

If it's a dual carriageway and you want to turn right then get in the right hand lane. It's very simple.

The fuckers who don't indicate do my swede in. Also a new trend seems to be sitting back a car length or so from the junction. Why?
At lights or roundabouts? Is it an ASL or maybe to get away if you get carjacked? Or to stop your fan bringing in the exhaust fumes from the car in front?

The one double one they put up in Poynton years ago was a bit scary. Mainly because of the pedestrians having right of way to cross and just walking out in front of the car

Poynton used to be a nice place but amongst many other things that have turned it into a crappy place the new "shared space" is without doubt one of the biggest acts of cretiny i can think of other than building a new road from the airport that someone thought it might be good if it can double up as a river every time it pisses down for more than 10mins.
I was over in Poynton last weekend for the first time in years, I often wondered why my girlfriend (she has an office there) looked at me in an odd way when I used to say “ooh it’ll be busy on the A6 around now”, didn’t realise (to add to that sham of a shared space system they have) they’ve linked it to that bypass too, fuck me what an absolute disaster that must be at busy times ?

Slightly off topic... but it’s driving related. I know you can pass a car on the left on the motorway when there is congestion and slow moving traffic. But I believe that is the only time you can do this. For example if there is a middle lane “hogger” doing 65 and not moving over, you can not pass them on the left. Is this correct? I believe you would be in the wrong and so is the other driver for not staying left. Thoughts? I don’t want an argument I just want conformation if possible - thanks all

Generally your understanding is correct, but there are some instances where staying in the middle lane can be justified and ok, ie where traffic is about to join from the left from a junction, it is good driving sense to leave the left hand lane free, especially if it is generally a busy one.

So be aware that somebody may not be 'hogging', just planning ahead.

Thanks. I get that totally, it’s more where the other driver has no reason for being in the middle lane, by the letter of the law I believe you cannot pass on the left - that’s what I am trying to confirm

Had this same chat with a driving instructor mate of mine. He said if you are in the left lane, and have been for sometime than stay in your lane. You arent undertaking as you havent changed lanes with the purpose of undertaking. Your lane is just going faster than the middle lane hogger.
I think this is a grey area but it has to be safer than moving across 2 lanes of traffic to passed the middle lane hogger.

When I go passed on the left I always take a quick look at them and they always give you a dirty look !. And it's very rare that they move over. You look in your mirror and even when they are just a small dot in your mirror you can still see they are in the middle lane !

I have noticed more and more people staying in the left hand land to pass middle lane hoggers, not sure if its correct but I must admit I stay left.

When travelling anywhere around England but most of my motorway travelling is to Manchester, I find the left hand lane is the fastest and most empties of the lanes, and just sit at 70mph most of the time. Left lane can get busy if lots of junctions, but other than that it's fine.

Totally get you mate, it's just something to be aware of in case somebody tries to use it as a defence as to why they were hogging the middle lane, the majority of the blame will generally lie on the undertaking vehicle, but the hogger contributes to it.

Personally, I overtake, give a bit of braking distance and move into the middle lane, then keep flicking my indicators left and right right in front of them, then move over to the inside lane. oddly, some people are still totally oblivious to what they're doing.
