Roundabouts

It never ceases to amaze me how many drivers still can't cope with mini-roundabouts.

I was with my Dad in 1976 the first time I encountered one - in Guildford. That's 44 years ago! Yet people act as if they've just been invented. It's amazing.

It's amazing how many people just ride straight over them, but then people also ignore the limits of the carriageway markings, double-white lines, stop signs, speed limits, parking restrictions, clearways, seatbelt rules, mobile phone regulations, traffic lights, lane closed markers, priority makings...

Now that I'm cycling more, I see it from a different perspective.

Slightly off topic... but it’s driving related. I know you can pass a car on the left on the motorway when there is congestion and slow moving traffic. But I believe that is the only time you can do this. For example if there is a middle lane “hogger” doing 65 and not moving over, you can not pass them on the left. Is this correct? I believe you would be in the wrong and so is the other driver for not staying left. Thoughts? I don’t want an argument I just want conformation if possible - thanks all

The rule is you overtake them on the outside lane then pull in, slow right down to annoy them and speed up if they try to overtake. It’s called having to take ones own medicine.

Single or even double "mini's" aren't a problem, but sticking 6 round one roundabout and making it two-way is, there's a lot less traffic at the moment, but that hemmel one on Friday was still gridlock.

My biggest bugbear with roundabouts is the timid driver, who needs it to be completely empty before daring to go on it, that and the idiots that don't bother to indicate on them.
