In my memory it wasn’t total silence. It seemed to take ages for a doctor to get on the pitch from wherever he was in the Main Stand. I was in that stand too and everyone was shouting at the doctor to hurry up as the players got increasingly agitated and Lakey started fitting.

Cheers MES - not seen this before. Thanks for sharing. I still have no recollection of the 2nd half to this day - I just remember the clash of heads and the aftermath.

You're right DD. I was in the Kippax and remember the agitation in the crowd before the doc appeared. It did go quiet after that whilst Lakey was being treated on the pitch as everyone was fearing the worst.

I seem to remember that criticism was levelled at the club because of that delay. The guy had to run down the whole stand and I seem to remember changes were made following that incident.

Lakey's Mum campaigned after this incident that all teams club doctors should be on the bench which was then introduced.
