Roy Hodgson 'Feed the monkey'

He should have used the word ni*** and then claimed he was trying to be hip and modern. That would have been less dumb than a monkey reference aimed at a black player, which I must say is probably one of the most idiotic things I've ever seen a coach/manager do in sports.

You deserve better than Woy.

Exactly this. I am certain that there was absolutely no racist intent and I can't believe anyone could properly get genuinely offended by this, but it doesn't alter the fact that this was a monumentally fucking stupid thing to say to a person with black heritage who is in their in their early twenties.

I'm sure he meant nothing by it, but very stupid nonetheless.
How so?

So he isn't allowed to tell a joke which involves animals? Because that's racist? Is there any other animals which we are not allowed to mention for fear of ridicule?

PATHETIC!!
Bullshit racism card played and bullshit newspaper reporters damaging the first sense of success we have.
God, sometimes a long for Koreas privacy laws to shut these redtops up!

What the actual fk, that joke makes no sense........

Mabye he was saying that the defenders need to defend and not fuck around in defense and just give it to the one player who knows how to play football!(townsend)

I like the joke on its own, it's just silly. Hodgson was obviously trying to make a point about players suggesting and playing like they were above the manager's plan to play through Townsend. There are however a number of personnel in that dressing room I would expect either to miss this completely or chuck the toys out of the pram.

There is no racism here. Just shit stirring. Which is a worry.

Does anyone else remember Geoff Hurst (as he then was) on MOTD in the early nineties, alongside Garth Crooks, when he used that unfortunate expression that our grandparents used to use that involves black people and woodpiles. It really was a "drop your bacon sarnie" moment. Even twenty years ago what the fuck was he thinking? I remember turning to mate and saying "did he just fucking say what I thought he said?"

I didn't see him make another appearance.

Shame the same can't be said about Garth Crooks.

Can somebody explain this to me please? I'm having a blonde moment (apologies to the blondes in the house).
