You’d hope that they are totally unrelated. Hodgson deserves a decent send off from Palace. Boyhood club and saved them from relegation last season.

If it was Palace’s way of removing Hodgson from the limelight, they were poorly advised to use ill health for someone of his age.

Personal reasons would have been more than enough.
