RSC. It's bite the bullet time

how on earth did he pass the medical when we signed him?

10 press ups and touch your toes??

"Aaaah, Mr Santa Cruz, we've been expecting you. Right, sit down and we will proceed with your medical. Can you tell me what this is please?"

"My arse"

"And this?"

"My elbow"

"Welcome to Manchester City Mr Santa Cruz."

Its a bit too early to write him off, particularly after the lengthy injury he's had.

He's just been asked to play 2 games in a week, having had very little game time at all this year - I'm sure if Ade was fit, there is no way Hughes would have started RSC against Birmingham having played him for 90 minutes on Wednesday.

He was terrible yesterday though - he looked like a player who genuinely had nothing to his game. No pace, no vision, no hunger, rubbish with both feet and terrified as soon as any of the opposition got near him. Thankfully, having watched him play before, I know he's better than that. Plenty of room for improvement though, which is encouraging.

To put a negative spin on that mate, I have also seen him on his game and I know that he is pacey and very mobile. The player I've seen in recent weeks is the opposite of that.

I'm not writing him off by any stretch and I'm praying he comes good. I'm just giving an honest appraisal of how he has looked in recent weeks (Scunthorpe apart).

Yep - fair enough mate.

He's had a bad injury, and its a distinct possibility he won't come back the same player - we could have a Fowler/Owen situation on our hands - flashes of former brilliance, but blighted by injury and having to adapt their playing style to accommodate the fact that they're essentially knackered. We have to hope that this isn't the case with RSC.

One thing is for sure though - its too early to tell at the moment. And he was being asked to start his 2nd game in 5 days having played very little all year, and having looked very good playing the full 90 on Wednesday.

I'm just trying to avoid being too harsh on him, as I don't think its fair at this stage.

Fair comment as well fella.

Don't want to jump to rash conclusions after one league start, but if RSC's meant to be anywhere close to full fitness then I fear he's finished. He looked like Bambi running through treacle for much of the game and wimped out of so many 50-50s that he may as well not have even bothered playing. I fully appreciate that he's suffered a serious injury, but if he can't even bring himself to run at full pelt or stick his foot in when the balls bouncing around the box, then he's not got much of a future left in top-flight football. I fear he's finally been psychologically defeated by all these injuries he's suffered.

Agreed we might as well as played with 10 men on the pitch yesterday. If he is not fully fit then Hughes should start with someone else. An away match in the Prem is not the right time to get players back to fitness, last week against Scunthorpe, yes I can accept that, but not yesterday, or did Hughes just think we just needed to turn up to beat Brum ?

It was rediculous to start with him, and not fair to the rest of team that had to carry him.

Well we should not be so dis-respectful, or conceited. If that is the case I hope that we have learnt our lesson.

He looked brilliant against Scunny, But yes, lower division team.

He looked poor vs Brum, but hes only played about 3 hours of football in about 11 months, what do we expect?

Of course he'll be a little off the pace atm, he'll pick it up.
