The sickening thing with the Santa Cruz deal is everyone single one of us fans KNEW how this would turn out. He'd be constantly injured, he'd be over-priced, and he'd be a nightmare to get rid of. How this transfer was ever allowed to take place is beyond me.

I am going to post once and once only - family have been city fans since the '50's so really not arsed what anybody thinks - I HATE my job and earn £29k a year plus pension and other bits and pieces but won't leave without VERY good reason,at the end of the day we ALL work to earn a wage so why the hell should they move to keep me and any other City fan happy for less money. And before the 'they should do it for the love of the game/club/badge' brigade forward an opinion get a grip, you would do the same and don't pretend you wouldn't.Why give a shit what RSC and others earn when it isn't our money and at the end of the day we have NEVER had it so good.
Stop fucking moaning we had Tevez/Balotelli/Clichy/Zabaletta on the bench at weekend!

If you were already filthy rich and didn't need the money, would you work in a job you hated for £29k a year, or one that you loved for £20k a year?

Now I'd presume that playing football is what these people love to do more than anything, so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that some might choose the game over the cash.

It's their right not to, but I worry about the priorities of anyone that would take cash they didn't really need over doing something they genuinely love doing.

^This. Well said.

The fact we signed him even after looking at his Munich record speaks volumes

Hughes pushed and pushed this, the man was sold a horrible promise from cruz, if them two are still in contact id be very surprised - for the record

In reality his signing and it's failure hasn't mattered at all, it has not slowed our progress, it had not left us short and the money was as it was pre FFPR totally irrelevant a few hours interest or oil sales. In truth it is probably due to circumstances not even one of the worst hundred deals we have ever made it did us no harm and frankly there are bigger things to worry about. He even behaved well so we have not even had bad press.

Why hasn't anyone replied? :x

Rayo Vallecano are still waiting to hear from Manchester City about their bid for out-of-favour striker Roque Santa Cruz.

The Spanish side have been linked with a move for the Paraguayan, who has started just six Premier League games since arriving from Blackburn for £17.5m two years ago.

But Vallecano sporting director Felipe Minambres has revealed that the club are still awaiting a response from City after they made a formal enquiry for Santa Cruz.

He said: "He is among a group of players who are of interest to us and has been for a long time. But we have made a proposal to Manchester City and we are still awaiting their response."

The newly-promoted La Liga side are also in the hunt for Liverpool attacker Dani Pacheco and it was reported he was in Spain ready to complete a season-long to Vallecano.

But Minambres said: "I know nothing about this. I don't know if he is in Spain or England. All I do know is we have not agreed anything. We have an interest, but also limited finances."

Interesting. It says he started 8 times and scored 4 goals. Not bad that. Always played very well for us too. Just wrong player at the wrong time unfortunately.

For City though, none of these players sitting on their arses running down their contracts is much of a problem. OK so there's a few million quid down the pan, and no-one likes to lose money like that no matter how much money you have got.

But in the context of the overall investment in "the project", it's a relatively minor inconvenience.

People might worry that carrying all this dead wood on vastly inflated salaries would damage our Financial Fair Play balancing act, and on the face of it they would be right. But if we don't meet the FFP break-even requirement, UEFA will look at future projections, where we can show how the books will look once we have got rid of our dead wood.

FFP rules state wages of Premier League players signed before June 2010 will not need to be taken into account but those from the August 2010 and January 2011 transfer windows will. The players mentioned will not count towards any expenditure total in regard to us meeting FFP.
