Rugby World Cup

well it was clear for long spells of that game that Scotland weren't going to be allowed to win by the southern hemisphere officials, so it proved.

Think they've done a fine job though, and think they're showing enough guile and ambition that they could win a 6 Nations before Japan 2019. Really think it's been looking up for the Scots for a while.

Yep so good they lost 5/5 in the 6 nations and were dreadful all world cup bar one match they still lost in.

They may finish above Italy with any luck.

Gutted for the Scots because that kick to touch from the penalty at the scrum with 5 mins to go was unforgivable and at the end cost them a great win,bit like O'gara in South Africa on the lions tour.
I did say on my last post that I liked the Argies in their game against NZ and boy they put a shift in today, long are the days when the only points they scored were from Hugo Portas' boot. They are in with a shout of the final and fair play to them.

Ireland know how to fuck up at times. A nightmare start to the game 17-0 down at 1 stage today. Missed tackles Tommy Bowe going off with another injury the amount of injuries for 1 game was always hard to deal with. O Brien , O Mahaney , Sexton and to a lesser extent O Connell were all missed for different reasons. Johnny Sexton too was a huge miss Ian Madigan was shocking today not having a world class kicker shows. The Argentina kicker missed 1 kick it hit the post says it all. The ref was a bit hit and miss the Argentina number 3 was a lucky guy today. All of that but it was clear that the power and pressure from the Pumas they were just too good and deserved the result. There our bogey team in the World Cup it seems. They are getting better and better all the time too.

Some things need to be changed for NH teams to have a chance the timing of the World Cup at the begining of the European season doesnt help. While SH teams are all just finished up in there leagues and competitions by the end of August while the rest of Europe are just in pre season for there teams. Also the game is more dynamic down there too compared to here. We all need to have players who are great at running with the ball in there hands from 1 to 15.

Argentina are only going to get better and better and there will be a close look at all from within the 6 Nations as to what has gone wrong not getting a team to the semi finals is wrong on so many levels. Injuries hit some countries hard but you just need to play a better all round game against the SH teams.

As for Ireland a young squad I hope Joe Schmidt stays on as Ireland has got some young exciting players still about and I think Schmidt will get the best out of them. Might change it about we were always a team in transition. After this we could see Rory Best , Mike Ross all retiring so thats 2 of our front row gone. Also we could well see more players going out of the squad. So the building starts again for the next World Cup. Ireland will regroup as usual and progress on year after year.

They've certainly got a better chance than any of the Northern Hemisphere jokers. Very impressed with them today, albeit against a piss poor Irish side on the day. The all blacks looked frightening last night though; that Julian Savea looked a fucking beast. Hard to look past them for the trophy.

Scotland were very unlucky tonight, one of the best performances I've seen from them for a long time. Really rattled the Australians this evening.
Just a little bit more luck and they would have won.

Reasons I hate rugby:

1) I don't understand the rules
2) I can't see the skill in the game
3) Rugby fans slag off footballers for being 'pussies' when in actual fact footballers, rightly or wrongly, will go down easily because the result of the game means so much to them, and they will do anything they can to influence officials & gain that competitive advantage.
4) "Rugby fans sit together" - whoopy-fucking-do, it's because your 'fans' are not actually fans they are some pissed up, bandwagon-jumping Henrys who don't give much of a fuck about the result but love taking their selfies at Twickers so they can post them on Facebook. I liken rugby fans to people who jump on the Wimbledon/Andy Murray bandwagon, who couldn't name 3 tennis players, have never played the game & couldn't give a fuck about any other grand slam.
5) The game is far too stop-start, there never seems to any flow to the game, it's like watching Pulis' Stoke on an atrocious pitch.
6) Rugby fans slam football fans as "hooligans". Undoubtedly some are, even our own fans as I have witnessed at Wembley & away days over the years. But I'm not & I don't want to be thought of as one just because I love the beautiful game. Most of the rugby players I met at Uni were the most disgusting arrogant pricks I have ever met. Some used to stand in a circle, spunk on a biscuit & make one of their rugby chums eat it. They would also regularly drink pints of each others' piss.

Sure I could think of more if I could be arsed. A minority sport which fuck all countries play (compared to other sports) - that's why all of our home nations get into the World Cup.

What annoys me is the holier-than-thou attitude of many in RU - the commentator on this morning's sports slot on Radio 4 says of that last-minute penalty "Union's ethical code prevents players & officials from arguing with the referee - you could imagine the fuss in football if that happened, how Jose (mispronounced as "Ho-zay") Mourinho would react and confront the officials". This sense of moral superiority annoys me. Punching, gouging, stamping on heads is OK then, cos they have a jolly drink in the bar afterwards together. Is it because footballers are mostly working-class and often foreign/black?
And nowadays, RU players must be 6 foot 8 tall and weigh 25 stone. "The "physicality" of the game is all you hear.
And the game depends on penalties awarded for minor technical infringements no one understands.

I was waiting for a Eurotunnel train once and everyone was out on the concourse because the bar area had been taken over by a southern rugby union club under 15 tour. We knew that because it was emblazoned all over their T shirts, a bit like "chicks on the pull " hen nights. Their behaviour was utterly disgusting. Their loutish drunken misogyny had driven all families out of there. There disgusting foul songs were embarrassing all and sundry.
Nothing was done to stop it and the "elders" in charge were the worst of the lot.
But hey it was ok. Just middle class high spirits.

What's the difference between rugby union and rugby league?
In league the ball spends most of its time in hands
In union the ball spends most of its time in the car park.

There's a lot of truth in what you say (and I say that as a lover of the game). The constant sneering at football by minority sports is tiresome.
Your last point, however, is unfair. It's a bit like me slagging off cricket, baseball or American Football - all of which clearly have some merits, too (fecked if I know what they are, mind) -simply because I find the rules too cryptic.
