From what I have been told, the extension has been delayed, if this is down to demand then surely the club are forgetting another source of income, which is the away fans, if city allocated 5/6000 to away fans and priced it accordingly then filling the extra seats would be a doddle, and make the etihad the most atmospheric ground in the country. 56000 home fans, 6000 away fans, it would become the stadium most like games in Germany. Charge the big clubs a reasonable 30/35 quid, and the minnows 20 to 25. The away followings at the etihad are dying, and adds nothing to the atmosphere presently

Yeah thats a fantastic idea. Spend another £100,000,000+ on the North Stand so we can cater for the 4 or 5 away teams that could potentially sell more than 3000 tickets. GENIUS !

The fact of the matter is that a combination of pricing / shit kick off times / and general social activity of supporters has killed away support in this country. Check out Villa last week. Big club that had just reached a cup final, in a really important league game for them, and they bring about 1200 !!!

The away followings for most teams are shrinking year on year and the biggest benefit of the new South Stand is that we will can fit the 75% of PL teams than bring around 1000 away fans into smaller sections in the different tiers now.

It's a fair point you make about the changing nature of away support. The cost of travel and the wide availability of other means to watch games will also have played a part too.

This 'selling out the ground' obsession always makes m chuckle

The biggest clubs in the world Barca & Madrid etc etc regularly have swathes of empty seats..and contrary to popular belief our neighbours across the road rarely sell out

Correct... the media obsession with our "empty seats" have brainwashed some fans that only City have empty seats! The scum "sell out" about 2 games a season..

However it doesn't stop some of our more gloomy fans from make predictions such as:
There aren't enough fans to fill the stadium
We are far too expensive, so no one can afford it
The Sheikh's bored and going home.......
