Rundown town centres

I was in northwich yesterday, looks like a lot of money has been is being spent on it. hopefully help make it a nice place to go.
As for winsford town centre, more empty shops than occupied, if asda goes, as is the rumour, it will truly die.

Surely there must be some nice town centres in the area (though I realise that isn't quite the point of the thread).

They're generally pretty nice round here.

That rumour was squashed by Asda themselves to all staff in a meeting only just before Christmas. However nothing is guaranteed, but this rumour has been ongoing for a few years.

Councils cannot afford to provide basic social care. Parking is hardly a priority for subsidies.

Paying around 60p an hour is hardly going to put people off shopping if the shops sell what they want.

Town centres are on their arses for several reasons. Councils are not mostly to blame. Government (who actually control the purse strings), internet shopping, large out of town shopping centres and supermarkets are most likely the main reasons.
Agreed in part, as my post is also agreeing with the original and second posts on the thread.

Bury has done well with the development of the Rock but you can't underestimate the pull of the market. Coach loads of pensioners travel in because of it. The Rock could quite easily have been a white elephant were it not for the existing pull of the 'world famous' market. It might not be to your taste but it is authentic and marks Bury out from the identikit town centres up and down the country. Rochdale and Bolton ruined their markets and both have suffered as a result.

That would be the 'world famous market' that the council planners tried to shut down about ten years ago and put a westfield on the site. Luckily the traders and a hundred thousand signature position stopped 'em.

On a side note, the lovely people at Lidl have decided to build a state of the art shop right next to mine in Radcliffe. This time next year......

I nominate Reading. One decent shopping street (Broad Street) adjacent to a rundown street (Friar Street) where everyone has an ear-ring and knows how to pronounce a superlative.

Until you see with your own eyes I give you a combined trio of Winsford,Northwich and Crewe. On second thoughts, don`t fucking bother, just believe me when I say they`re all shit holes.

Tbf Northwich is making an effort, new leisure centre, cinema, waitrose etc....I would bomb the rest of the town centre and start again tho
