Rundown town centres

I was in northwich yesterday, looks like a lot of money has been is being spent on it. hopefully help make it a nice place to go.
As for winsford town centre, more empty shops than occupied, if asda goes, as is the rumour, it will truly die.
A lot of the empty shops in winsford are due to the buildings above being unsafe ,some collapsed a few years ago into the shops below.
They are due to start knocking it down on dec12 not happened yet.
What they build there is anyone's guess

Surely there must be some nice town centres in the area (though I realise that isn't quite the point of the thread).

They're generally pretty nice round here.
The north west in general is a shithole.

I was over in Knaresbrough late Autumn for a couple of nights, you should man the baracades to keep people out, it was a pleasure wandering around.

Yes but thats only what,20% of all the current precinct shops.I hear that all that area is going to be knocked down and flats being built there.

Bury ain't too bad the market worth the trip sometimes.

Unfortunately
Ashton - stuck in the past
Droylsden - a ghost town even gabbots fucked off
Stockport - needs modernising( and is trying to), busy but still shite only worth a visit to see if there is owt decent at the adidas outlet.
Eccles - same as it ever was

Dale/bolton I haven't been to for years so cannot comment.

They said the metrolink would bring back prosperity to the first 2, unfortunately it hasn't, and even though stocky n bolton should have tram links rather than another to the traffird centre.

If GM is going to work as a city region then spreading the wealth and investment between each town needs to happen.

The travel card system needs to affordable and not run by several companies.
Transport needs looking at between towns parking charges are ridiculously inconsistant, and public transport disjointed, not having to spend shitloads on different bus firms or a bus and a train/tram mytravel cards are useless at present.

Each town needs a reason to visit more also, all having a debenhams and shopping arcade doesn't cut it anymore, there is tonnes if natural beauty and history in GM but do we promote it enough?

Wait until the drones start dropping our purchases in our back gardens. Delivery drivers will be a thing of the past. All this stuff delivered straight to the door, drive throughs, no wonder half the country is obese. Every fucker sat on their fat arses looking at a screen, no talking, no walking . We're going to end up back in the caves mumbling shit and eating raw meat!

It's been foretold ....

There's lots of nice places in the north west. Knutsford, Lymm, Stockton Heath/Walton etc are all great places to live.

Coventry...coming like a ghost town as The Specials once sang. Aye, they were not wrong. Very run down these days, like the local football team.
