Running thread

First run since Xmas eve for me after being a bit injured. I say run, it was more of a slow jog really and walk in places too icy. I wasn't going to run but after dropping the car off for an MOT first thing and walking back through the snow, I thought sod it, the weather's too nice.

So I got out on the trail shoes and managed a slow four miler up hilly trails and over the fields. It was perfect running on crunchy snow, wading in mud through the woods and jog/walk on icy stretches. Only feels slight discomfort after watching football this afternoon, so another few days rest and I'll go again and hopefully on the mend.
Sounds good that

Nice. I might get that on a good day (and with a caffeine chew on board!) but I was a bit ginger out there today; too many patches of slidey stuff on the pavements. Mind, this was 2-3pm so I reckon the temp might have started falling by then.

It's pretty freezing, but after 5mins ya don't feel it

What I notice after a rest, isn’t that I feel better after the rest, it’s that I feel like the next training session is much easier.

3-5 days is usually a good time period for rest, anymore and you start to build too many carb levels that just get converted to fat.

I find 3 days the sweet spot mate.

3 days off and I always come back fresher than a Foden stopover.

Went for a run today but had a bit of company so 5.6ks in 32 minutes. Felt a bit undercooked at the end, as I have not ran for 3 days, so was straining at the leash. Will get a long one in tomorrow.

Just my hands!! But gloves arrived today which should sort that out tomorrow

Same here mate. Struggled with poor circulation all my life and really takes away a bit of enjoyments of the runs lately.

One of my cyclist mates has recommended Gore Wear so going to buy a pair of them.

Gloves FFS! You sound like FFS! I might dig my gloves out if it gets cold. But it's T shirt and shorts weather at the moment ;)
Haha. I had a warm long sleeved underlayer with a roll neck, and a technical t- shirt over that. Also a fleece neck warmer, tights and shorts, a fleece hat, and gloves. I was still cold at the end of my run.

Feel like I’m getting arthritis in my hands so once they get cold I really struggle, got some gloves from running NY but don’t do anything at all. Hopefully it’ll be sorted tomorrow!

If they dont work mate another option is neoprene. Used for wet suits in the sea. 6/7 degrees in the sea is horrendous on your hands but they do the job nicely.

Had shorts on but a long sleeved top under a jacket, mad dog snood and a hat (this helps with the headphones) it was fucking freezing!
Ha. Just messing really. I had track bottoms on with a fleece type running top over t shirt. I was pleasantly warm in the sun.

But honestly hardly ever used gloves. Occasionally on a long slow marathon training run in very cold weather I would set off with gloves but after 40 minutes or so would need to remove them as hands got sweaty. Must be down to circulation I suppose.

I’ve actually got a pair for my bike, bit long up the arm for running I think, and a pair for swimming, did think I might overheat in those but if these don’t work tomorrow I’ll give them a go.
