Running thread

No Parkrun for me today due to time constraints so just done a quick trot in the rain along the Irwell from Factory International/ Aviva Arena to Gnome Island and back.
Now off to observe some precipitation inside Old Trafford

I'm in the middle of a two week holiday in Keswick. Changing accommodation today so missed Parkrun.

However, to compensate, I ran up and down Latrigg yesterday - 8km, which is my longest run this year (injuries). I say run, but here are my split times: 6:55, 6:38, 8:16, 17:24, 8:38, 6:44, 6:55, 6:25. That fourth km was all climbing and scrambling as I lost my path. The two either side involved some uphill walking too.

I have to say, it was brilliant. Fantastic views of Keswick on the descent, lovely weather. But I'm suffering a bit today with an aggravated hip, which is painful with every pivot.

I'm looking forward to my annual lap of Derwentwater on Wednesday. Part of my run is flooded though, and the diversion through Grange increases the distance from 12km to 18km. That might be too much with my current fitness levels.

I love the idea of hill/fell running but living in north London don't really have much on my doorstep..

Oak Hill parkrun this morning, new best time of 23:24. Looking at past results my first parkrun was in 2016, when at the age of 45 I managed to finish in 29:50. Slightly depressing thought but I wonder when age will curtail the likelihood of achieving personal bests..

Great stuff! Did you sit on the bench overlooking Keswick?

I've had cause to visit Manchester a few times recently (family bereavement). Obviously not the nicest of reasons but it does provide the opportunity to get in some runs around this great city.

Nice to get down the Rochdale Canal and adventure around Moston Brook.

I'll be back a few more times in the coming weeks so I will be on the lookout for some more nice routes around Moston / Failsworth, especially off-road.

Did another Keswick - Latrigg circular run today, 11km. This time I stopped at the top, sat on the bench for a couple of minutes to rest and take in the fantastic views of Keswick, Derwentwater and Bassenthwaite.

It's hard to believe I've been coming to Keswick for the best part of 30 years and not been up Latrigg until this week.

anyone else having very lethargic runs in recent weeks? headaches and dizzy ness?

Going off my Garmin I am running at the right pace etc but I don't half feel tired

I was struggling when it was warm a couple of weeks ago, but feel fine now it has cooled down a bit.
Running in the rain on Saturday morning was massively refreshing.

I love rainy runs. Great arent they!

Yeah, just so refreshing. Don't like wearing excessive clothing when I'm running as I quickly overheat, so was out in my shorts & running vest along the Irwell in heavy rain on Saturday morning. Got some funny looks but felt great.

Week 7 run 2 complete very nearly:(
After week 7 run 1 which is 25 minutes I felt a slight discomfort above my left knee, not actually in the knee above it on the left hand side, during todays run I was pretty confident got to about 15 minutes and feeling good and pretty strong, I was even contemplating doing 5k, last run I covered 4km ,when I started feeling discomfort again, thought no worries, I was running nice and steady, even considering upping the tempo, as I carried on I was starting to running with difficulties, and getting some pain, I ended up stopping with about a minute to go because it was making me limp run, got home put some frozen sweetcorn on it, what do people think it is, and what should I do about it

Did a 12 hour obstacle event through the night in September, completed it but damaged my knee and hip. The knee is damage to the bottom of my IT band, I'd had a similar injury 5 years earlier. Usually caused by running too quick too often, or by increasing mileage too soon.

Did 5k a day for 30 days through the end of Jan and Feb, but haven't got the knee right despite loads of rest and strengthening exercises. I've noticed it plays up after my boxing sessions too. Can almost feel a tendon glide over the outside of my knee from time to time throughout the day. It's like toothache down the exterior of my knee for days.

Hopefully I can get it right as I want to sign up for some ultra races next year but can't do that unless I can get up to marathon distance by the back end of this year reasonably pain free. I've even tried changing my running style to a wider stance so I'm pointing my knee out and not landing too narrow. Anyone else had any IT band tendinitis issues?

Sounds similar to the knee injury I picked up whilst doing couch to 5k. At least you stopped, I continued my run in an attempt to "run it off" and made it worse.
Ice and elevation is the way to go, but see how it feels to walk on tomorrow.

I find frozen peas works well.

Seriously though, you did right to stop. There's no point getting an unnecessary injury, which might cause a prolonged absence from running.

I can't help you with the injury above the knee though. It's not one I've experienced personally. Maybe rest followed by an easy reintroduction to running.

Midweek training run completed along the Isabel Trail in Stafford powered by last night's Alagiah family recipe Sri Lankan curry. Cheers George!
