Running thread

Hope everyone has had a good year of running in 2019. What are your plans for 2020?

My 2019:
1572.9 miles run.
Marathon PB.
2 x half marathon PBs.
10k PB.

Aims for 2020:
Lose at least 4kg and keep it off.
Get PBs in all of the above distances as a result.
Run at least as many miles as in 2019.

I've done about 820k this year, running about three times per week. I had a four week lay off with a calf injury at the start of the year, and one week off with a stomach bug.

My best 5k was 24:01 and my longest distance was 19k. This was about two weeks ago, and I tried this to see if I might be able to take on a half marathon in 2020.

I'm 58 and running for fitness, weight loss and now enjoyment. I've only been running a year, and I've lost 4 stones in the last 18 months.

My goals for 2020:

- to run at least four times per week
- most of my runs to be 10k
- to exceed 1000k
- to run in some organised 10ks
- to run a half marathon, probably Manchester
- to maintain weight at around 12 and a half stones
- to continue to support the brilliant Parkrun movement

Hoping to continue the level of running I did at end of 2019 all through 2020.

Aims:
- A double parkrun New Years Day , start as I mean to go on
- Trafford 10k in March
- Manchester Half in May
- Great North Run in September
- Better my PB for 10k or Half

Plans for next year:

- sub 20 minute park run (best this year 20:55)
- run Wilmslow half marathon
- run 25 park runs
- lower my body fat (measured today)
- lose 6 pounds in weight
- maintain my current diet,(veggy) only started two weeks ago

Got two park runs tomorrow, one at 8:30am and the next at 10am so a good start to the year

Where is the 8:30 run? I might join you for that.

fuck me. You smashed my mileage and I’ve run every day. Fair play sir. Well done.

I did Burnley Parkrun this morning, first time at that one. Quite proud of myself considering didn’t get to sleep until 3 after making sure kids were safely home and in bed.

Any of you pros got any tips to start out. I'm naturally quite fit for my age. Just turned 40 and play football 3 times a week. With my new job I work away quite a lot and company pays for meals so I have developed a few extra pounds around the waist. Obvisously I'm gonna start to cut down on the ale working away which should help but I want to start running. Should I start and run as far as I can til I'm knackered or just do a few miles first and try to get the time down???? I've just bought a Samsung gear watch so I can track my runs as well. Also any good apps out there I can use that anyone can recommend... Happy new year blues!!

Two park runs this morning, 21:08 and 21:15 finishes.

Surprisingly, the second one I felt a lot better than the first and wished I had put a bit more into it, rather than running with the handbrake on waiting for the anticipated collapse.

Great to see so many out running with 650 at one and 960 at the other.

There was a few posts on this topic a few pages back but the mistake I made getting back into running is doing short distances as fast as I could.

Work your way up, get some distance under your belt at a manageable pace rather than trying to kill yourself and you will enjoy the experience much more.

Not sure on the samsung, went for the forerunner 235 but having your distances, inclines, pace measured I find really beneficial. If there is an app similar to the garmin one and you like analysing stats, it really adds to the experience.

Personal view but at 43, found having a cheap decathlon roller to massage my legs afterwards and compression socks beneficial to recovery.

Also if you have chance at wkends get on the park run circuit. Start at 9am, all done by half past and will give you a buzz for the rest of the day.

Good luck and keep posting to let us know how you get on.

I completed the couch to 5k programme before Christmas and after the indulgences of the festive season, I’m looking to steadily progress beyond 5k. Completed my first Park run on Saturday but I’m really looking for something that I can use a few times a week. Any recommendations?

365 running every day challenge completed ! Fuck yeh. So many highs and lows.

official statistics :

Average run a week - 7
Average time a week - 3 hours 30
Average distance a week - 22 miles

time - 190 hours
Distance - 1,180 miles

Excellent that, if you don't mind me asking how tall and what weight are you?
