Running thread

Harrow? Are you from round there, or were you there for the semi final?

My son has just landed his first job in Harrow.

No, not enough running trails for me. Im based just outside Bournemouth but was in striking distance when I got stuck in a bit of traffic.

Looked a nice area though.

Most PBs were random and many years apart. Originally a cyclist and a shit footballer gave me base fitness for most PBs.......certainly at shorter distances. HM and full marathon though were after proper training. Nowadays just run for fun, health reasons.

But I do have my first real race in about 8 years next week. I might post the result if not too embarrassing........

Yes make sure you post it. We all look like middle of the road plodders on here compared to Gaz

Did my first half marathon today, just by myself, in just under 2 hours. I’m shattered, but proud of myself.

Didn’t really get in to running until the first lockdown, so slowly been building up

Great going that without the motivation of a race atmosphere and chasing other racers down.

Get yourself booked on a race and you might be really surprised how well you get on.

I ran 10km this afternoon, in 59:19. That's four minutes outside my PB, which was three years ago. This was my best run in about six months.

I've been struggling with low haemaglobin levels and have twice had to take supplementary iron. I'm in my second course of tablets right now.

Had to push hard for the last km, but I'm absolutely buzzin' that I've got below the hour mark again.

right. seems you all need a good kick up the arse!

biggest advice.... SIGN UP for a monthly race, whether 5k/10k or half marathon, hell even a marathon! at least then you've always got something to aim for and something to train for

also, Saturday morning Parkrun should be compulsory, just a great way to kick off a Saturday - lovely vibe wherever you go

I have my 4th 10k tomorrow in 9 days! forgot I signed up for a couple ages ago, oops. but I've really got my running mojo back and feel much better for it and my times are improving again.

A marathon? Fuck that!!

I don't think there is a fixed set of symptoms, or a standard recovery pattern from Covid. I caught it in February. Had mild flu symptoms without a temperature for about three days, and ran again after about a week.

I did Parkruns before and after Covid, two weeks apart, and clocked the exact same time for them both.

My advice would be to just take it easy on your first run after recovering, and see how you feel. There's plenty of time and nice weather ahead for building back any drop in fitness levels.

I had covid in Jan.

few days later I run my best ever 10k in local race.

Went on a few runs in feb and since then its been a disaster for me, pain raging from plantar fasciitis issues to middle toe being swollen and bent at an angle (its not broken) also my middle finger is massively swollen.

Still dealing with full body aches, just little niggles.

Ran over 6k yesterday which I would do in less than 30 mins. Taking me alot longer.

2 miles this morning, only 2nd run in 4 weeks due to being on holiday. Went out early last week and intended going out Thursday/Friday but had really bad calf cramps (both legs) each night before so decided to rest. Had quite heavy weekend partying with a days recovery yesterday. Put on 4lbs in a month and almost stone back on since May last year. Plan to get my HM training plan back on track on Thursday. Was nice getting out this morning
