Running thread

Over 840'000 ballot applications have been received for the 2025 London Marathon.

I don't get why they don't open the ballot a few weeks after the London Marathon. It would cut down on people watching on TV who think "that looks fun" then sign up.

Why shouldn't people be able to watch on TV and sign up? The only ones that are a pain are the ones that sign up and then don't run,
London is a pretty awesome mara and they have it just about right I reckon, any serious runners get in through the GFA or championship system and the rest get a go of the ballot seems pretty fair to me

Anyone should be able to sign up, all I’m saying is give it a few weeks to reduce the amount of people who impulsively sign up without really intending to do it.

I gets yer, and kind of agree, apparently they used to wait a week or two, but looking at the stats there were more drop outs then.

Those dropout rates are crazy. Maybe the idea is for demand to outstrip supply on purpose, so people feel lucky to get a place and turn up regardless.

The more people who sign up, the more money they make. Many people choose to donate their fee (I think it's £50 this year) in exchange for an increased chance. If half of the applicants donate their fee, then that's over £20 million straight away.

New Forest series trail half on sunday. Great views but it was proper muddy and boggy after saturday nights rain.

Bit of a struggle from the start but noted someone from my run club was following me from the word go so had to keep pushing. Was expecting a sprint finish, but he tried to do me with 3k to go, thankfully I had a bit left in the tank so managed to hold him off. Sad but I was well chuffed.

I signed up but not arsed about London.

I’m doing Brighton the week before which will be my 5th time at Brighton only. It’s just amusing no one seems to care but if it’s London then everyone cares

And then don’t fucking do it, we’ve a ‘friend’ who got a place for this years but has deferred until next year, not a cat in hells chance she’ll do it.

I applied for London but took the option if I don't get in, to have a place at Brighton. Hopefully it wont be too windy.
