Running thread

I run round Dovestones, so it is mud and grit. If i don't completely submerge in the sink them after a wet run, there can be chunks of it inside.
So it's more to clean the inside than out etc.

When the weather's dry, i just give them a clean once a week to keep them fresh.
I was more asking if it does them any harm especially the insole etc.
Oh right! Sorry. I reckon a machine wash every week would indeed do damage to the shoe. I’d probably do no more than run them under the outside tap and scrub them off with a stiff brush then bring them inside, stuff with newspaper and keep in the utility room or somewhere else warm until they’re dry.
 
After knocking 5K pb down a minute to 23.30 last week thought I would try for a sub 50 10km this morning and mamaged 49.30.

Chuffed with that. Had 20secs up my sleeve after 8km then hit a very muddy up hill section that was tough and lost 15 secs of it. Last km was horrific, just dug in and managed to do it in 4.30 somehow to secure another PB.

Back to easy runs for a couple of weeks now.

Did 9.75 KM this morning in horrendous conditions. Wasn't enjoyable. Lesson learned- don't try and run in snow.
I know what you mean mate. Went out and did 8km at about 12 o’clock. Wasn’t too bad, was slushy more anything, glad of my waterproof socks let’s put it like that, but it definitely slows you down a tad doesn’t it, even subconsciously.
Anyway, it’s always worth getting out when you can - especially when later in the afternoon you can sit down with a few cold Guinness to watch final score then City :-)
 
Did another 7k today, fourth run this week after a long lay off and the first day I’ve felt a difference. Feels like a bit of weight has dropped off, miles more positive after my run and generally just put me in a better mood. Felt pretty horrendous after new year and the last few weeks, but just a change to my diet and starting running again is working wonders.

Brilliant that mate. Running has always had a massively positive effect on my life, far beyond just fitness.
 
Just a word of warning for any fatties. Mate of mine started running about 5 years ago in his early 50s. He was about 18 stone and has got down to 15 mainly through doing 5ks.

now has had to have 2 hip replacements in quick succession.

Most likely due to carrying 18 stone around for many many years!! Imagine carrying that upstairs!!

Is it really a ‘mate’.....
 
Enjoyed both my 5k runs this weekend at Heaton. Mad one yesterday when it was heavy snow, could barely see and lethal under foot. Then today an easier set of conditions, however the park was fucking mobbed and was having to be careful to weave in and out of groups and head on to crap at side of paths on a few occasions, I knew it’d be the case though so didn’t let it bother me.

Legs feeling good, definitely feel like I’m benefitting from doing more stretching, but as mentioned a few pages back I’m not doing them pre-run, more at random times of the day.

Pinged my bastard calf again on Saturday morning, started feeling it the Saturday before having just completed my first 5k of this year having built up over the first few weeks, stretched off and set off ok but felt it ping again after a couple of minutes.

Last week was the first time ive felt the frustration at not being able to get out and run I was a right moody twat, after a number of years doing nothing it really is amazing how much of a positive mental feeling ive got from getting out for a trot. Looks like a couple of weeks rest now so im going to try my bets to stay positive and set some goals for when I can get out again

I wanna fit in 3 runs before end of January, but secretly know my legs will no last without rest

Felt mine but tight on my last 5k. Rested few days then couple long walks and felt ok so went out on Friday, managed 5 miles but didn't feel right yet. Hope you get get back out again soon
