Running thread

Good luck tomorrow all!
My wave is leaving at 1025.
Aiming for sub 4!!!
Hi mate I’m also in Orange B at 10:25. I was tempted at sub 4 but sub 4:15 is more realistic. Random question does anyone know when is best to pop a electrolyte tablet ? I know it’s not forecast to be hot but I always take one on my long run at the half way mark usually
Good luck everyone who’s doing it

Depends on the person but maybe one before the start and one halfway or so?

My personal habit/routine is to take a couple of salt pills at the start then at about 10-12 miles, take another two along with a couple of caffeine pills.

_______

Best of luck to everyone doing the marathon today. Hope you enjoy it (at least the first 20 miles anyway!) and that you achieve your goals.

As another poster said, don't make the classic mistake of going off too fast - let everyone else do that, knowing that you will cruise past them later!

Can't wait to hear how you all get on.

Id say take the tablet around half way like you say.

Seriously impressed. I prefer the trails but never had the legs for that sort of distance. Twenty miles with about 3 thousand feet climbing was about my limit I think when at peak fitness.

It was a bit of an eye opener pushing on past marathon distance. I had ran a marathon and 30 miles in preparation but still found the ‘struggles’ started around 20 plus miles and around 30 miles my stomach went south so knowing how to refuel is pretty essential. I could not eat and was starting to retch, when I tried, so I had little fuel to power me.

The Marathon I went through in 4:29 with the bulk of ‘hills’ (only 500m ascent overall) completed, which in hindsight was probably too quick for me but I wanted to stay with a group to aid with navigation. As a consequence the last 16 miles took 3hrs 16. Real learning curve for next time.

3000ft is some serious climbing though over that distance.

Thanks for the insight. It's interesting reading about these long fell and trail route challenges. Especially things like Bob Graham round. I enjoy a couple of hours jog in the fells but that's enough though.

8 pints in now lads, refreshments are key!! Yep went off too quick, but held the pace until around the 21 mile mark when for some unknown reason i decided a piss would be a great idea, not so much, was a struggle after that, but lessons learned, got the sub3 but can do better, huge congrats to all of you that smashed it today. In the meantime I shall now beat all these plastic paddys as drinkin guinness in mulligans!!!

Hi all 3.56!
Got my sub 4 and raised £500 for Cancer Research
Superb mate . I knew after the injury ravaged training schedule sub 4 was too much for me. I wanted sub 4:15 and got 4:14 So really chuffed . I was tempted with sub 4 but i knew deep down it was too much of a tall order . I got 4:51 last time so can’t be disappointed.
Well done everyone else, it’s a hard slog. !

Excellent Top Gun. I knew you were capable of sub 3. Did you smash it and get the pacing to perfection this time?

Got pain in both knees :(

Was a very good dancer in my younger years. Still decent when my knees hold up. Went to a wedding 2 weeks ago and dance for an hour.

Havent run in 2 weeks both knees are wrecked. I'm mean, my knees have always been creaky, but damn!

All I want to do is run 2 miles a day. Nothing intense or even.moderatelt arduous. just your most basic baseline of fitness running and my knees can't even tolerate that. A 10 minute a mile pace is painful these days :(

I'm just saddened about the whole thing..Wifey thinks I should consider surgery. But I have friends (2) who did and it wasn't very helpful :(

Also, considering sleeping with slabs of purple cabbage around my knees. Some have sworn by it.

At this point, any non too invasive remedies I'm willing to try.
