Running thread

Been out 3 days on the bounce, 5.25 miles, 5 miles and just finished 6.2. Going out with the wife tomorrow to do a 10 slow miler together, after some medical issues decided I need to slow down my pace a touch but keep ticking the miles over. Currently at 300 now for the year.
Well done Inchy. Keep it going, and we all hope the medical issues resolve themselves soon.

Parkrun 93 at Wythenshawe. Parkrun time 30:16, 5km time 29:52. The difference accounted for by starting at the back of the pack, and two short diversions to avoid heavy mud. I dropped something en route, and stopping to pick it up cost me five seconds too.

That's my first time under 30 minutes for quite a while, and after an 8km run yesterday. Very happy with my progress.

10k today. Ran the first 8 conservatively, with a quicker 9th K and then finished with a 3:29, 10th K which was completely flat out. New trainers so wanted to test them out.

Felt very tired this week so dropped the number and duration of runs. My own fault as you need to organise yourself and get out early doors, which I have failed at.

Signed up for the Abingdon marathon in October. Seems ages away at the minute but as I want a decent time need to sit down with a book and start planning. Any good training plans people could recommend?

I stayed over in Castlefield last night, and was awoken, as I always am when I'm here on a Wednesday morning, by a loud running group at 05:00.
It seems they are some sort of "military fitness" type group led by a shouty bloke and loads of screechy women. Why they have to carry out their activities in a residential area in the early hours is a mystery, but I resent being woken up to shouts of "you got this", "ooh look at you" and excessively loud clapping.
If I'm awoken by them again, I'll be reporting them to the Police for anti social activity in the same way I'd do so by drunks making excessive noise in the night.
Anyway, because of my disturbed sleep, my run this morning was a tad half hearted and lackluster!

you should of got up earlier and joined them!

Got my run streak up to 300 days today, its a great motivator, there's been quite a few days where I have really not been in the mood for it, but the thought of going back to zero gets my lazy arse out of the door

awesome mate, I know all to well the logistics and how tough it can be at times but you're right, its a motivator.

Great effort mate

I hope I'm ok posting this in here...

On the 6th of July, I'm running 25km as part of the Peak District Challenge in memory of my baby boy, Teo. Teo was born with a congenital heart defect in May last year but passed away during heart surgery the day after he was born. It's been a such a difficult year. Running has kept me sane at times and we've had so much support from a charity called Tiny Tickers. I've been wanting to do something in Teo's name for some time and booked flights back to England at the start of July. By chance, my brother and brother-in-law had signed up to walk 75km as part of this challenge the first weekend we're back so I've decided to join them and raise money for such a really good cause.

We set up a Justgiving page today (link below) and have had an overwhelming response already. I just wanted to share it with my fellow runners here on Bluemoon, not only for any donations you would like to give but also for the support. I'm going to need to find my hill legs because Valencia's so flat and I've only given myself a month to train!

Thanks from Teo's Team - Justgiving (I'm Matt for those that don't follow me on Strava)

I’ve been running since my mid 50s. Now nearly 61. I’ve had niggles with my ankles for about 3 years and have insoles. 10 weeks ago I broke my ankle doing absolutely nothing. Stress fracture. Saw a physio who said to take it easy, build up running slowly. And stop if it hurts. Which I’ve done. Just done the early weeks of Couch 25K.
Went out running this morning and have broken it again.Same place. Had only ran for 10 mins. So frustrated. Is it time to hang up my running shoes, or is there hope?

Maybe try cycling mate. Less strain on the ankles. Shame about the fracture though. I'm 62 and I'll be devastated when I have to stop running.

Argh that's shite that mate, I wouldn't totally give up if you don't want to, maybe when it heals look into supplement advice, strengthen the bones, or maybe some ankle support while you are running?
Life's a fucker for kicking you in the balls, but if you are determined to keep running then there must be some way round it.
Hope the recovery goes well

I started at 51 having only previously run at school.
I started running last year at the ripe old age of 61 with no experience whatsoever! I've never looked back (so to speak). Ran the Eden Project Parkrun last Saturday finishing 59th out of 429, smashing my PB with 22:20 and coming first in my age category. I also have a number of fell races coming up having completed the 20 mile Hope Valley Round in March. I wouldn't have thought it possible even six months ago. Just goes to show it's never too late!
