Running thread

Yeah it is. I was 10 seconds behind !
Haha. Mint. I was following a bloke from Marple Running Club I think it was with his dog. I’m not there next week as I’m in Belfast (hoping to join Parkrun there) but will hopefully be back at Peel Park the week after.

I’ll give these a go next week. Can you recommend anything to avoid calf strains/injury?
Awesome mate.

Here's a good dynamic calf stretch for if it's a particular problem area for you:

The guy says to do it 5 times but I would do 10. Also, ideally warm up first with a 5-10 minute walk or jog if that's possible.

Also, if you look at the start of my video where I'm showing what NOT to do, you could do these static stretches but not immediately before your run. These are best at least 4 hours after or before your run. The stretch against the wall and the stretch on the bench but try to point your toe towards yourself.

142 days without an alcoholic drink Had a few 0% here and there which are okay but feeling really good. I even went Oasis sober!

Done 59 miles this month and will be running tomorrow to get it over the 62.1 miles (100km challenge) on strava! Surprised I did it, I've used CoPilot to knock up a slight training plan for the Manchester Half so will try and stick to that. Its sold out at the moment but wondering if they'll release a few more spaces

That's insane mate, so good!

Now you've done it, could you now imagine not having done it?

Sounds like you've had a complete mind shift, well done pal

Currently tapering for a 5k on Thursday, tapers are frustrating because I feel good and want to run, which I suppose is the point of it.

Hoping for sub 19 for the first time. Watch has me at 17:30ish and is usually fairly close to what I can do but that seems wildly optimistic.

So sub 19 with the slight hope that I feel great at 2.5k and kick into the low 18's.

Happening more and more this kind of shit, there's also a backlash brewing against all these hipster run clubs that are popping up left right and centre, more and more bell ends are starting running, I've given up on the runners nod/wave as you just get blanked as they chug along on their 45 min 5k marathons with oversized headphones and phone bras

Running has exploded but I have been thinking this more and more at Parkrun, given the sheer numbers now attending. Not too bad for me as I'm usually near the front where it has thinned out but these Parkrun's weren't initially designed to hold hundreds and hundreds of people.

Runners, runners with dogs, runners with prams, parkwalkers. Add the general public to any parkrun course and you're going to get incidents now. Some of the paths can't hold 4 and 5 abreast.

Great for the sport but probably an annoyance to other park users.

The good news is, 5k races are becoming more of a thing again which is great, I feel like parkrun limited these for a while as people were reluctant to pay for a 5k but I think it's more popular as I know a few that avoid parkrun now.

Not sure what the answer is, maybe bring it forward an hour and hope that thins it out?

Yep it's not really much of a problem up front, and 99.9% of the decent runners know the craic and are respectful of others.
I've done a few parkruns where I've started at the back, either with my kids or just to take it easy and found the whole experience totally different, there's a lot of angry runners further back.

I’ve never paid over the odds for shoes, just buy what I like the look of and not too expensive, never had any ankle or knee issues and run fairly neutral.
I feel now it’s time to get some proper road running shoes so want some recommendations in either New Balance, Nike or ON.

I also don’t fancy any of these carbon plated shoes..

Over to you guys.

Doesn't tie in with the brand you're looking for, but I've got Asics Novablast 5 which I think are really comfortable, not had any issues at all

They're also in a lovely laser blue colour!
