Running thread

I’ve done a few loops of that. What a great public facility that is..Even autocratic dictators know the value of a good running track.

Some very nice views of the Danube to take in as you get round. Very jealous you’ve had a go of it, don’t think the mrs would have been too happy if I’d packed the running shoes for the weekend break to have a go at it.

Easy mile then .20 steady .20 tempo x5 with easy mile to finish at 6 this morning. Tough but loved it

Since Sunday when I did the marathon been feeling really down. In fact I was crying my eyes out last night. Very strange the aftermath of doing a marathon.
I think it's the big come down after the weeks of training and the race itself.

Never done a marathon, but I have done long-distance hikes and there's a phenomenon called post-trail blues. Basically it's normal to feel down for a while after completing something that had been giving you some direction and purpose, it's a kind of grief when that's no longer there.

Well put thanks mate.

Yep, totally normal mate. The combination of training hard, then tapering, then running a fucking mental distance plays havoc with your hormone balance which can send your emotions all over the place. Then there's the psychological element of spending months constantly thinking about, focusing on, and preparing for something big... Then suddenly it's behind you and gone.

Take care of yourself mate.

Thank you mate, sums it up very well.

Done the Manchester Marathon in 4:54:37. Made up with it. What a day and the atmosphere, wow! I think it was Chorlton, 20 Miles ish I was struggling and the crowd didn't half pick you up.
Signed up for next year with the experience from this and a full 16 weeks to train before I fancy a good go at it again! My missus came and supported me seen the atmosphere the achievement and signed herself up

Hilly crystal palace park run today for me. Official time of 32.24 and more than happy with that as a first effort. Had to stop at 7 mins as couldn't settle, legs heavy, breathing not right, had a word with myself, took a moment and reset. Good luck to everyone running tomorrow

Well done mate. Awesome job.

Good Luck and best wishes to anyone taking part in the London Marathon tomorrow. Especially those fundraising for a good cause, well done.

I completed the Marathon des Sables two weeks ago. Described as the toughest foot race on earth across the Sahara it is even more brutal than described. Lots of mistakes made in prep, not fitness but choosing, and testing kit. Physically prepared enough but it could have been so much easier.

If anyone is ever thinking of taking it on, then I'm happy to share my experience and what I learned. Certainly not an expert in the MdS but as a finisher that learned some hard lessons over the 270km I'd be happy to pass along what I would have done differently.

I entered (mostly) to fundraise on behalf of Walking with the Wounded. A charity for Vets which is close to my heart. Collectively, our band of brothers & sisters (24 of us) have raised an astonishing £80,900. Not here to plug that, but if anyone does feel WWtW is a worthwhile cause by all means DM me if you want.

Again, good luck to all tomorrow.

Collected my daughter from Heathrow airport and went to Bedfont Lakes Parkrun. Lovely place and weather was great. Time was 31 mins.

The 2026 London Marathon will live with me forever. Watching it live you could feel the anticipation building as Sawe and Kejelcha edged closer to immortality. That last 600m was up there with the Agüero moment for me. I’d go as far to say running sub 2 hours in a Marathon is the most impressive sporting achievement I’ve ever seen.
