With all the talk on here of the danger of "the left" I thought we should look at the players involved in Syria.

Russia.. .. conservative authoritarian
Syria...... conservative authoritarian dynasty
US.... conservative republic
Iran... very conservative theocratic republic
Saudi.... ultra conservative monarchy
Israel.. democracy with a conservative bent
Turkey.. conservative republic

Apart from a small group of Kurdish marxist fighters this war/civil war is being fought by countries who in no way could be described as left wing.
