Russian Fans

There is one reason and one reason only they unveiled that banner and it was a huge "fuck off" to Poland to say they do not recognise them as a country and that the whole of Eastern Europe is Russian.

It's not so much that people would be offended. I comepletely agree with you that people are too quickly offended (when they really aren't) these days. But it is the WUM of all WUMs between these two nations (as you may know from my posts on the Poland v Ruassia thread that i am part Polish!)
And there was me thinking it was just a football tournament.

Somewhat overhyped by BBC and SKY, and a few tabloids wanting to cause trouble.

It was interesting to hear a BBC reporter today, saying how much the tournament in the Ukraine has confounded the criticism/expectation so far.

[quote="Berkovic_blueWTF, has the weed melted your brain?

Bit rich complaining about insults, I'm not the one who was calling people wankers or did you forget you did that? I think rehab is calling you :)[/quote]

Did i insult you before you stuck your oar in? No i didn't. You jumped straight in and called me ignorant in your first post.
I insulted one other poster after they called ma a twat.

Now if you wanna have a serious debate about Russian football and racism i'm all ears.

It's never just about football. England is just about the only country where football is just football. Almost everywhere else footy is based around political or religious rivalry. In England we don't have rivalry like that, we just have "friendly" rivalries and a bit of banter that can lead to the odd fight. In other countries footy acts as a political and religious propaganda tool. Honduras and El Salvador went to war after rioting at a footy match got out of hand.

Correct.

Many or most of the eastern europeans have political backgrounds, in which their supporters followed due their political bias.

In conformity with the USSR logic, team identities were initially not somuch social or regional – not even in Belarus and Ukraine – but rather attached to various elements of the state. As such, they spread also across the rest of Soviet-dominated Europe, especially in the late 1940s and early 1950s, in the age of ‘Stalinization’.35 Accordingly, Dynamo were the teams of the Interior ministry and the KGB, CSKA (or local teams named SKA, ‘Red Star’), were sports clubs of the army. Torpedo were teams of the carbuilding and truck industry (Torpedo Moscow, for instance, was the team of the powerful ZIL), Lokomotiv were teams of the railway sector, Rapid teams of the Trade Unions. In Russia, the only non-affiliated club was Spartak Moscow

In Seville working class people support Betis and middle class and rich people support Sevilla.
In Catalonia people who felt they were Spanish support Espanyol while separatists support Barcelona.
We all know about Rangers and Celtic.
The list is endless.

I'm not sure who's on that flag, but the text is the most insulting part IMO. D you realize that Poland only broke away for the Soviet Union within the last 30 years? That Poland was occupied by the Soviets for decades!?

For Russians to come to Poland with a flag that reads, THIS IS RUSSIA, is simply one enormously disrectful WUM.
Its so easy to be offended these days. For me the words "THIS IS RUSSIA" just pointed out that it was the Russian fans. I wonder if anyone noticed that (unlike England fans against France, which thankfully didn't last long) there was no booing of the russian national anthem by the poles ? The march shouldn't have been allowed and was a massive WUM, but a banner in a stadium ? Not for me.
This is incorrect.

Could you imagine City invailing a 150m2 banner at Old Trafford saying THE CITY IS OURS? and then imagine hundreds of years of wars between City and United with United having
occupied our stadium for a number of decades and us having occupied United's stadium for
decades as recently as 30years ago along with hundreds of thousands, if not millions
(random fact: more Russians died in WW2 than any other nation - 17million!) of deaths along
the way. There is one reason and one reason only they unveiled that banner and it was a
huge "fuck off" to Poland to say they do not recognise them as a country and that the whole
of Eastern Europe is Russian.

Nail on head. My mate married a Polish girl last summer and the wedding was in Poland. Speaking to the locals about it the memories of decades of Russian occupation and oppression are still very raw. This is a real hate filled rivalry, nothing England have at international level comes close.
