Its so easy to be offended these days. For me the words "THIS IS RUSSIA" just pointed out that it was the Russian fans. I wonder if anyone noticed that (unlike England fans against France, which thankfully didn't last long) there was no booing of the russian national anthem by the poles ? The march shouldn't have been allowed and was a massive WUM, but a banner in a stadium ? Not for me.
Out of curiosity, how old are you?
Not that I see its got much to do with the discussion, I'm more than old enough to remember Poland occupied by the SU, in fact old enough to have worked for the "opposition" in Germany when it was at its height. You ?
38. Just asked because you seemed insensitive to the history between the two countries,so I thought you might be to young to remember Lech Walesa. My mistake.

No I'm not insensitive to the history at all (poland has also occupied russia in the past), I'm just not one of those who feels the need to be offended by proxy. I was only a few hundred miles away when Lech helped liberate Poland, and at the time whilst it was ultimately a great thing, it could have been a catalyst for a war everyone feared, and me and my family where pretty well on the frontline.

Clearly there have been some bad things done by russian fans in poland in the last week (and vice versa from what I saw on TV today), but I can't feel offended by a banner in a stadium that I thought actually added something to the event.

I'm not sure who's on that flag, but the text is the most insulting part IMO. D you realize that Poland only broke away for the Soviet Union within the last 30 years? That Poland was occupied by the Soviets for decades!?

For Russians to come to Poland with a flag that reads, THIS IS RUSSIA, is simply one enormously disrectful WUM.

Disagree.. Banner with that image and words had nothing with fans themselves, it was intended provocation. It looked good of course but it was provocation with political connotation (or otherwise the guy who fought against Poles wouldn't be on it) and shouldn't be there.

Poles inside stadium dealt with it pretty good though, I guess if those bald idiots from the streets were inside of stadium it would cause the riots of highest order.

Bit rich complaining about insults, I'm not the one who was calling people wankers or did you forget you did that? I think rehab is calling you :)

This is incorrect.

Could you imagine City invailing a 150m2 banner at Old Trafford saying THE CITY IS OURS? and then imagine hundreds of years of wars between City and United with United having occupied our stadium for a number of decades and us having occupied United's stadium for decades as recently as 30years ago along with hundreds of thousands, if not millions (random fact: more Russians died in WW2 than any other nation - 17million!) of deaths along the way. There is one reason and one reason only they unveiled that banner and it was a huge "fuck off" to Poland to say they do not recognise them as a country and that the whole of Eastern Europe is Russian.

It's not so much that people would be offended. I comepletely agree with you that people are too quickly offended (when they really aren't) these days. But it is the WUM of all WUMs between these two nations (as you may know from my posts on the Poland v Ruassia thread that i am part Polish!)
