I don't think it's possible these soldiers got ARS, but I reckon it was a stupid thing to do re future health. Probably being bussed away for health assessments.

From what I read it takes about 1k mSv’s to cause ARS and there are plenty of places over there they are 1-2 mSv per hour as it is. If they dug trenches into some higher area’s those figures would go far higher and be from every angle ( bar directly up ) when in the trench. If they got it to 4mSv’s per hour it’s about 10 days to hit 1k.

I've no idea if it's true, it sure makes great Ukrainian propaganda, but it could be credible.

The report claimed they'd dug defensive positions in the "Red Forest". Everything we've seen from the Russian army suggests they're easily stupid enough for that.

The Red Forest is where much of the core of the reactor was ejected to in the explosion. It was so heavily irradiated the trees all died (!) hence the name, from the dead leaves.

If you're in a trench with lumps of irradiated nuclear fuel and reactor core, even 40 years after the event, it'd be off the scale radioactive.
