I have the following on good authority: Putin said "its tuesday."Show me one truthful statement that **** has uttered this year.
The payment by some countries for Russian energy in roubles would be a pinprick to the dollar. We're talking about a fraction of dollar/petrodollar trading.I thought he made some decent points tbh. Not ones I necessarily agree with, but I'm secure enough to just shrug my shoulders and move on from those.
The point about undermining the US dollar is a good one. It is a currency in peril at present - I'm sure our American posters are well aware of this. Putin's demand for payment in rubels not only props up his own currency, but is a threat last seen to the dollar when Saddam tried to change the currency oil was traded in just over 20 years ago and we all know how that ended. The attack on the dollar may yet prove to be the 'red line' in terms of a western (US led) military response to events in Ukraine.

Media are saying Putin is living in a Nuclear bunker. And his generals are keeping the truth of Russian military incompetence and humiliation in Ukraine from him.
I figure it does not bode well when he eventually finds out the truth.
There is a School of thought out there, that the whole thing is an elaborate charade to precipitate full on global economic collapse and usher in a New World Order.
I have an open mind on it all.
As should everyone else.

Fair to have an open mind. But honestly - the evidence is overwhelmingly against Putin - a war criminal, dictator, liar, thug, monomaniac, nationalist, anti-gay miserable scumbag. Why you should believe anything he would say is frankly astounding.
Hence my remark about "flat earth." Those who believe in the flat earth exhibit the same sort of rejection of obvious plain fact as you - all in the name of having an "open mind."

Russian output of gas is 17% and oil 12% of world output. Some countries buying some of that may be asked to pay in roubles. The federal reserve wll lose no sleep over that.That sort of is the point. It's that absolute primacy that is under threat and history is full of sudden/unlikely collapses in currencies. Added to the problems built up by QE the prospect of a significant portion of energy trading being done in another currency is certainly a threat. As to how significant/what scale I'm comfy enough in my own skin to admit I'm not sure of the answer, but it is at least worth considering.
