Russian invasion of Ukraine

Also I can't stop chuckling at 'Satan 2'. What kind of shite name is that? It's like something from an episode of South Park, or something that other clown in North Korea would come up with.

Get in the bin and stay off the vodka you silly twat.
That’s the name the west gave it, the previous generation being dubbed “Satan”. The Russians call it the Sarmat, after the Sarmatians.

A few domestic issues..... Beggers belief that anyone could think that. I'll take it you're not one of the ones sat freezing or one of the ones without food on the table. I'll take it you have a roof over your head.
This issues will get substantially worse over the next 12 - 24 months as the cost of living reaches unprecidented levels.

And yet this government spend more money on foreign aid than they do tackling these huge huge issues at home.
Too long have we turned a blind eye or made token gestures to tackling these issues.

Did you know we spend in excess of £55m pa just on security for asylum seaker hotels - just for the security.
That's before you get to heating, food, lighting and other utilities.
The amount of money we could be helping our own with first and foremost is well beyond what any other countries provide - hence why these people travel across several other countries to get to the UK.

And so back to Ukraine... Clearly I think what has happened is horrendous and clearly I think we should be supporting them but id also like to see other countries contributing an amount per capita because right now we are a small island and yet, at a cost to our own, we contribute substantially more than most other countries.
I certainly don't want our soldiers to actually fight in this war either despite loathing Putin.
Yes I know that this government are fucking useless when it comes to dealing with our very real domestic issues but that has absolutely fuck all to do with our support to Ukraine. It's not a choice of one or the other. As a country we have pledged less than £400m to cover our support to Ukraine. That is roughly equivalent to what the government spends every 3 hours on everything else. So don't spout all this shit about us not being able to afford it. If we begrudge spending 0.015% of our GDP to help in the fight against the world's biggest threat there's something wrong with us. Thankfully, unlike you, most people understand that it is in everyone's interest to help to defeat Putin's megalomaniac ambitions.

It is up to other countries to provide support as they see fit. It is a ludicrous suggestion that we should withhold support because we don't think certain other countries are doing their bit. That's for their consciences not ours.

So, you're happy for the bully to do as he wishes, when he wishes.

You appear to have convinced yourself that the only way to stop the bully is by worldwide nuclear obliteration.

Give in to Putin now and the peaceful, democratic world is lost.
You know Vic, slag off Britain, wring hands and let autocratic bullies divvy up Eastern Europe as they please.

He knows this but having made a collosal fuck up, he is throwing out these threats through desperation.
He’s throwing out these threats as he suspects that the west is full of nappy wetting cry arses that will demand their governments do as he says.

We are doing good things on Ukraine.

But you're absolutely way off here - and don't bring any facts.

On direct aid, here's total and as a proportion of GDP. On the latter, we're good but by no means out front.

And this does not take into account refugee hosting where we're way behind.

I don't even think we should be supplying them but at least we're not in the fight.

We've got a stack of homeless, fuel prices through the roof (to the point where we've genuinely got people choosing between food and heat) , food banks being used in every city and were sending millions of pounds abroad.

There's a stack of bigger countries than ours doing a whole lot less. For once we should let others be on the front foot whilst we fund our own recovery programme.
Brilliant...... Great Britain, the sniveling shits of NATO hiding behind its hands with its fingers in its ears. That would go down well in the eyes of the world.

I don't think he suspects that, I think he knows that. He’s seen the effect Brexit has had on European unity, he’s witnessing the west turning against each other over energy and other sanctions, so I’d imagine calling a few bluffs and thus hoping for more and more splits, is well within his compass and is not a bad strategy, to be fair.

Despite Brexit (a terrible thing IMO, but that's for another day) I think the West is fairly united. Minor differences, but on repelling Russia out of Ukraine AND seriously degrading their ability to do it ever again, all the major players (US, UK, EU, AUS, CAN, JAP) are together on this. In fact, I'm delighted to see that Brexit has not affected our ability to work with France, Germany etc when things really matter.

I disagree that it’s a good strategy as so far the West and especially NATO has called his bluff time and time again.

100% this.

Zee Germans dropped a bit of a bollock in relying on Russian energy exports a bit too much but overall I think the West's unrelenting and steadfast support of Ukraine and universal voice in telling Putin to go suck a dick has been wonderful to see.
