Spot on, and this is why the US has some responsibility for the current situation. They didn’t do it with malice but they certainly didn’t treat Russia as any sort of equal or understand their sensitivities. You can also add Yeltsin to the list. Putin coming to power is a product of western attitude, what he has become now is a product of his, and others, madness.

Russia needs to take some responsibility for itself. The west may have fucked up with its dealings with Gorbachev but the west didn't select a genocidal maniac to become Russia's leader. They managed that on their own.

They would really have to be mad. Russia is struggling to penetrate a defence formed by a small country using donated weapons, much of which are no longer state of the art. Why would Russia take on a much better equipped organisation made up of more than half of the western world?
