Russian invasion of Ukraine

Been celebrating my birthday in Vilnius, Lithuania, where understandably support for Ukraine is high. Enjoyed a few beers in one of the many bars, where they had this very appropriate "tribute" to Putin, composed of a photo montage. Those of you who are easily offended or are of a nervous disposition might be advised not to zoom in on the picture!

The Russian milibloggers don't understand how it takes them months to gain a mile of territory and the Ukrainians can gain miles in a day...

It's because if the NATO military doctrine of OODA invented in the US by Colonel John Boyd in the Korean War for arial dogfights and is now applied to all aspects of NATO armed force combat and at all levels of command.

It also requires good quality communications and empowered NCOs and lower command ranks to make it work. Something the Russian high command wouldn't alow in a million years. Ukraine has now fully adopted western methods.

I read something before the start of the war and this highlights beyond belief how disengaged the russian are. The russians supply their troops mainly by railways, they have their own railway army, because of the vast distances. They are commanded from the Kremlin and told... this is what you need...use it, whereas NATO forces basically request from the front and ask for the supplies that are required at that time to do a certain job. By the time the shit hits the fan with the russians it's generally too late to change plans, as seems to be more than evident now.

Late afternoon update - Russians in full retreat in Kherson and on the Kharkiv / Luhansk front.
They do such a good job of collating information in a way that's easy for everyone to understand.
