Russian invasion of Ukraine

Thanks and I accept what you say, it makes sense.

But that addresses the question why they might not attack, I'm read to believe that they cannot attack, i.e. are constrained from doing so. Maybe I have nis-read the narrative?
I would imagine that there was an agreement in place with Western nations that any weapons supplied could be only used to defend Ukranian territory. I suspect that if they were to start attacking Russian territory, that supplies from the West would very quickly dry up.

The "end game" which keeps getting spoken about,is when he presses the button to finish the lot.

If he's backed into a corner and losing territory they thought they'd secured,he may be left with no option, which is not to be ignored.

He's not bluffing this time he promises. He really means it Russia are big and strong.

The rallys where his sheep are waving Russian flags look very odd............just reminds me of the Nazis stuff.

Brain dead fuckers following a total loon.....although some look quite intelligent.

I don't get it.

I've always wondered WHY?

Why can Ukraine not attack Russia in self defence? I always believe attack can in some circumstances be the best form of self defence. Who says Ukraine can NOT attack their enemy?
Russian soldiers will fight a lot harder to defend the Motherland. (Where this Fatherland shit has come from with Putin and his United Russia party is very NAZI I have to say.) Attacking someone who hasn't attacked you, not so much. Compare and contrast 20th centuary attacks on Japan, Poland, Finland, Afghanistan etc with WW2 where the Germans wanted to exterminate Russia as a concept.
Also the US won't allow it - it raises the stakes for a nuclear apocalypse considerably.
Knocking out artilary with counter battery fire over the border is allowed BTW. Forward supply bases too.

Last night on German tv the critical Russian author Dmitry Glukhovsky talked about the Russian inferiority complex and the national pride as the only hope left.
He left Russia and would walk straight to jail for 15 years after criticizing Putin personally.

If you have 5 mins there is a good background article written by him in 2018 about the Russian way to feel about the west:

Bottom line it's about lost greatness and defiant pride to keep some kind of identity to answer the basic question "Who are we?".

Military Update:

Although a good read, I do think this guy has a bit of a downer on the capabilities of Ukrainian armed forces.
There are now at least 40k Ukrainian troops fully trained in the NATO way of war. Lower echelons of officers and NCOs have the capability to react tactically using OODA techniques. And the recent attack in Kharkiv showed this in spades. This was followed up by attacks in Northern Donetsk and Kherdon that were equally clearly using OODA techniques.
