Absolutely, so it comes down to whether people agree with the motives and intent behind them rather than just solely on the actions themselves. And as you said, some people might not like that when it comes to the UAEs (or others) position with this.

Honestly not sure where sporting organisations will draw the line. Mazepin supposedly has links to Putin but I've not read up on it.


In regards to Golovin, depends how much pressure Monaco (the football club) come under. Prince Albert has frozen Russian assets in the region:

Id be very careful with this. Russian celebs and sports stars abroad are one of the very few sections that are openly critical of the actions in Ukraine and get huge exposure in Russia due to their social media feeds. Casting them off not only reduces the likelihood of those individuals feeling empowered to do the same, it enforces the anti west resentment.

For me you ban every player every driver every representative - It needn't be for long but every shining light in the West that the Russian people have is extinguished demonstrating how Putin has ostracised them from the world and made their homeland a pariah state. We are now facing a Putin who is saying you go big or go home - we go bigger - across the board from Oligarch's kid's being kicked out of posh schools because of sanctioning to a speedway rider in Grimsby being told he can no longer ride for the same reason.

I can’t exactly articulate why but I think I draw the line at banning institutions vs individuals.

Spartak Moscow represents Moscow, Daniil Medvedev only represents himself - especially if he’s not got a [RUS] out next to his name by broadcasters.
