Khazakstan has been actively encouraging the growth of Khazak culture quite different from Russian mores. I can readily see them asserting independence. They are Turkic speakers and (?) Muslims. Technically classed as Turko-Mongol culturally.

One problem for Kazakhstan is the fact that russia has almost all of it's space launch programme based in it's territory, I doubt russia would want to give that up.
