Russian invasion of Ukraine

I think humiliating Russia, long term, would be ill-judged, tempting as it would be, but Putin needs to be humiliated in the best interests of European security. His authority needs to be fatally undermined to concentrate the mind of the next incumbent.
That Macron, Orban, Vatican peace plan in full:
"Ukraine, kindly bend over and accept Russian Rodger Ing. Then the rest of us can all get back to making money and doing dodgy deals.Thank you."

I would imagine that the moment Ukraine has reclaimed the territory with which it is satisfied and there is an end to the conflict, then the EU will arrange its membership tout de suite. The suffering it has endured and the investment made would make the usual snail’s pace of fulfilment and ratification unnecessarily punitive.

You’ve missed a vital ingredient in this. As much as we’d all wish it so do any of us honestly think Putin’s Russia will accept defeat? So long as Putin remains this war won’t end, they may even replace him with someone worse. The best case scenario here, with Putin in charge, is Ukraine vanquishes Russia out and it descends in to border clashes with the odd missile strike. That might be seen to be an ok outcome for Zelensky/ Ukraine.
