Russian invasion of Ukraine

Daily summary. Includes an answer to the Bakhmut question and a pretty good description of what is happening all across the front line.

One of the cunts, Lord Balfe, had the temerity to say:

But conspicuously drew no comparison to Russia, which is a bigger mess of a country than any other.
Skidelsky is in favour of Russia taking over Russian speaking regions. Pity for the inhabitants who are not.

Just had a fascinating chat with an old friend who works for a political / military consultancy.
He reckons Russia is doing the impossible, losing many more men than Ukraine is when Ukraine is attacking.
Ukraine takes a trench, then Russia immediately tries to take it back with a counter attack losing loads of men in the process - often with those who retreat getting shot by blocking units.
Rinse and repeat.
Russian Reserves are draining away rather quickly.
He reckons Ukraine would be crazy to force a breakthrough now - they should do what they are doing now and wait a month or so before attacking a weakened spot on the line by then they should lowly have got to the secind line of defence in a few places.
He further reckons Russia will have to run a new draft very soon or the meat grinder will run out of meat!

It's nothing more than a trap the Russians keep walking into again and again and again. Ukraine is so lucky that Russia is so stupid.
As CTID1977 says the Russians want to take Slovyansk and Kramatorsk and you can't approach these towns if you don't take Bakhmut.
Look at the physical and topagraphical maps of Bakhmut - attacking east to west funnels through the place.

Fuck me this combat footage is insane (it is available just marked by Twater with an advisory)

Didn’t realise the US hadn’t signed up.

I’m that case there is probably a significant stockpile
Ukraine actually want to dismantle the shells and drop the bomblets from drones (no delayed fuses) into trenches.
EDIT: I'm not talking about HIMARS missiles here, the artilary shell versions.

If the US have MRLS pods ready to go it would be better to use them Id guess, fits right into the current battle techniques they are using.

but dropping from drones would be a good use. and safer for future generations ( but with all the mines that ship has sailed )
