Russian invasion of Ukraine

Ukraine using thermal imaging to detect some of the land mines being places. they retain heat more than the spoil around them so you can see them at dusk.

Looks like Craters have a similar effect so not 100% accurate but certainly helpful

I was only thinking about this today, but more as we get into autumn and colder nights if the frost will give away the location of mines, and again in the spring - will the snow thaw faster above the mines?

There is software in agriculture that can detect weeds vs crops or which areas need pesticide/ fertilizer that could be re-purposed for mine clearance.
The company I work for does it, as well as software for autonomous vehicles. Putting the two together could revolutionise mine clearance.

Great in agricultural fields. Extremely different in wooded areas

More Mine clearing news.

Home grown in Ukraine, Look cheap to make. turning standard excavation machines into de-mining machines.

I couldn't find the actual article on Reuters so linked via Yahoo.
Looks to be based on the British funny tanks used in DDay. Simple but very effective.
