Russian invasion of Ukraine

Sure they could do without Russian gas but not overnight. They are buying $170,000,000 of it a day. They haven't stopped buying it since the war started.
Buying gas off Russia and supplying weapons to Ukraine. Tbf they can't be accused of not putting their hands in their pockets. I think this is why bold announcements on sanctions are often followed up by weak action - we are all too interdependent for even targeted/limited sanctions not to hurt everyone.

Not for me to say, but it was said about 3 days ago by Herr Habeck the German economy and climate minister, that they could do it, including buying gas and coal from elsewhere and using existing inventories. If you want to argue that he was wrong in what he said then please take it up with him. In the meantime I hope all the cunting russian banks get kicked out of SWIFT, not just the less “important” ones.

Just wondered if anyone on here had any ideas as to how the western governments are going to get these new armament shipments to Ukraine, are we just going to fly them in? That would seem very risky to me, but what other way is there?

Not arguing and sincerely hope he's right, just saying it's a very big ask to do in a few days.

To an airbase in Poland near the border, then by road or train from there, simple logistics really.

Been happening for 3 days now actually.

Imagine shooting down a NATO supply jet as a Russian military force. They'd know not to touch them or they bring the whole of NATO in and Putin does not want any excuse to do so.
