Not sure about that - they'd get found out fairly soon when weapons with Chinese writing on them started turning up. And the Chinese, whilst no admirers of the West, don't particularly want to get dragged into something that could backfire on them in a nasty way.

Only thing that the Chinese are afraid of is losing trade hence sitting on the fence..

They already have found Chinese munitions being used in Ukraine, US confirmed that back in March of this year. Will be no skin off North Korea’s nose sending their stock to Russia as they are already sanctioned to death already. Then magically more rocks up for them from Beijing.

China are sending raw materials to Russia for them to keep their war machine going. Example being magnesium alloys used in their Tupolev bombers. They don’t care what the West thinks and will deny it. They have Russia by the short and curlys with their credit stream for them and they will be first in the line to get infrastructure built in Ukraine when this thing is over. This war is good for their bank balance.
