The Russians continue to persist with their attempts to attack primarily from the northern pincer.
It seems they have finally learnt that taking the Terracon has granted them no real advantages because it faces the wrong way, and getting in to it the roads face the Ukrainian side. So in many ways it’s become useless to them. However it did deny the Ukrainian forces views to the north which allowed the Russians to reach the rail lines.
The current estimate is that Russia has lost 200 pieces of kit and 20,000 troops trying to reach the coking plant and cross the rails as well as take the position as far as the railway in the northern section.
An additional two brigades are said to be mustered ready to reinforce the attack and the Ukrainians have been targeting these with HIMARS.
The Russians complain of severe issues with drone harassment and that they have no EW to counter it.
The Ukrainians say that they usually kill 80% of the attackers before they reach their lines but the 20% that get there are still a sizeable force and danger.
This then is Russia’s way of winning. The Stalin era tactic of relentless human sacrifice no matter the cost. Overwhelming with numbers eventually gets you what you want against an enemy who doesn’t think the same way.
Ukraine has to constantly adapt and reinforce and keep using better tactics and ammunition - lots of finite valuable ammunition - to keep them at bay.
The battle for Avdivka is far from over.
Slava Ukraine !
