Russian invasion of Ukraine

That just looks like one massive sitting duck to me.

I know fuck all about being in the military but if it were me I wouldn’t put those vehicles so close together.

The Ukrainians only have to hit the vehicles at the front and the back and the ones in the middle will be picked off and blown to shit for fun.
You hit the ones a 3rd and 2/3’s down the column.

the front 1/3 you then concentrate on destroying, then mop up the trapped middle 1/3, leaving the final 1/3 to either try and fight through the mess or run (hence causing demoralisation)

Why would anyone risk firing a nuke towards Russia? I realise they can track trajectory but surely not where its going to land?
NATO Nuclear doctine is no-first-use tit-for-tat till unless an enemy breKthrough. Fail to do it and Russia will keep doing it.

The **** Putin is going for Kiev.

I hope the anti tank weapons sent to Kiev arrive before the attack.

Thankfully American and NATO satellite images and war planning will help the Ukranians.

Newly released satellite imagery shows a massive convoy of Russian armour descending on Kyiv.

Pictures taken on Monday, before noon in Ukraine, show Russian military units near Antonov airport, about 27km (17 miles) from the centre of the capital.

According to Maxar Technologies, the satellite-imaging company that released the photos, the convoy is nearly 17 miles long (27km) and "contains hundreds of armoured vehicles, tanks, towed artillery and logistics support vehicles".

a sitting duck for an air strike

Huge price increases and wiping out of their savings mainly.

Think the question will be whether Putin can make them continue to believe it’s the west’s fault rather than his own. I don’t think he’s started the pr battle any better than he has the invasion tbh.

The men in grey suits....

Russian style.

Insider trading is. But things that are in the public domain don’t constitute insider trading. It was pretty well known that the Russians had 200k troops on the border and that the west was threatening sanctions.
More importantly, taking your own money out of your own bank account, is not "trading". Whether insider or not.

Welcome to your evening bulletin from Mordor, where the President's race to make us more isolated than North Korea gathers pace. Apologies for any repetition of stuff already in the thread. Have been busy and it moves so quickly I just can't read it all.

Some pretty horrifying footage of the bombardment of Kharkov. This is one of the best disposed cities to Russia outside Donbass, not far from the border and with plenty of those Russian=speakers they're supposed to be desperate to protect. Shows that latter claim up for the transparent lie it is.

Looks like they could be planning something even worse for Kiev. I dread to think what news we may wake up to on that score.

Meanwhile, the US Embassy has suggested that American nationals consider leaving now, while there are still a few commercial flights out. Makes you think, even when you're not an American.

I've predictably had to cancel a trip home to visit my mother, who's 88 and with failing eyesight as well as a plethora other medical conditions. She was widowed last summer, has two kids who both live abroad, and is struggling a bit on her own for the first time in 50-odd years.

That's pretty upsetting, as I also cancelled my last planned trip at Christmas owing to travel restrictions imposed following the UK Covid outbreak. But save your thoughts and prayers for the natives of Kharkov and Kiev. They need them far, far more.

PS - Five million roubles would have been 50 grand in sterling last week. By the end of this week, it'll probably just about buy them a new telly.
Sorry to hear. Best wishes my friend.

As far as i understand, which is not much i admit, they are only oligarchs because he lets them be. The second they show even a hint of wanting to go into politics or do anything Putin does not like then thats it, they are done for.

I read a while back that is why Abramovich is ok, he knows the score so just keeps his head down basically. If he said he was going to run for the top job you would find bits of him in different places.

Should have been sanctioning across multiple areas in Russian politics and society, not just the oligarchs, they aren’t the only ones that have vast piles of money and assets in Europe.

As is his right.

That thread is mirrored on several threads on here. It’s an echo chamber of abuse, politically biased with literally nothing new being said. Now don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean some of it isn’t true, it most definitely is but it isn’t new and to highlight a man saving his own money by pulling it before sanctions hit isn’t exactly a revelation and nor is it behaviour 100% of us of right mind wouldn’t do ourselves.

This thread is about Putin and his murderous attack on Ukraine and most of us are in it to discuss that and hear news about it. The financial history of Rees Mogg is not relevant imo but there are loads of threads in the political forum where it most definitely is and I’m certain you would find a far more receptive audience to your revelations in them.

Something you obviously crave and demand given your outburst ;-)
Though it weirdly escalated into abusive comments at the blink of an eye, not so sure him/her adding that Twitter thread to this topic warranted the mini pile on.

Yes, the post should’ve gone in to the politics forum, but the Twitter feed centred around U.K. govt approaches to Ukraine so assume that’s why it was posted here. The Rees Mogg bit was a small and by far the least noteworthy part of the string.

If you read all that Twitter thread it isn’t abuse or bias or old news as you say, it’s an opinion based on what the tweeter sees as fact. E.g some of the points are based on the messy visa situation for Ukrainian refugees - as was covered on the 10 o clock news tonight.
