I think the real risk here is that now the leash is somewhat removed from Ukraine , Russia may well get their arses handed to them on the battle field, once a bully is seen publicly to be weak they either crumble or lash out with everything they have, no one knows which of the 2 will surface.

They already are lashing out with everything they have IMO.

And whilst it certainly is satisfying to see these restrictions removed, it's highly unlikely to suddenly transform the battlefield, alas.

I've just seen Corbyn's statement on X. What is it about left wing types, who base their ideology on being such anti imperialist hero's that when it comes to Mr Putin, they do a full 180. It makes a bit more sense with right wingers who adore their Authoritarian anti woke leaders, Putin's essentially everything Trump wants to be. But what's the game with those on the left, is it simply a black and white world view that the west is at fault for the world's problems no matter what, and by default they have to align themselves with murderous dictators and ignore or downplay their crimes, no matter how heinous they are?

Nothing wrong with that statement. Ukraine has lost the war. Russia needs to come to the table and name it's terms. Ukraine need to accept that they have lost territory and come to terms with it and demand assurances and protection from the West to prevent further losses.

All of what you say is true, but it does not negate the fact that Ukraine is defeated and that the war needs to stop and that conflict is not worth starting WW3 or a nuclear conflict over.

Victors get to name their terms. Ukraine doesn't have to agree to the first demand, that isn't what I said.

Crimea needs to be abandoned.

It can haggle over how much of the East it wants to give up. Reality is that it will be difficult to persuade Russia to vacate that land without offering a more attractive alternative.
