Ryan Bertrand

Second would be Alonso for me, unless you count him as Midfielder because of his advanced positioning in the 343 system. In that regard yes that would make Bertrand the second best.

Alonso is incredibly overrated IMO, he's average at best but in a system which allowed him to make some decent contributions in attack without really having to do much in defence other than get back and never really take any responsibility if Chelsea conceded or failed to score. The Spurs, Palace and Liverpool games he was specifically targeted as a weakness in their side, because he does nothing to stop crosses coming in.

There's a reason Conte is supposedly in for another left back, I don't think he'll be in that Chelsea team long term.

A few things:

1. What he said was corroborated by Marti Perarnau, a legit Guardiola insider who has access to our transfer targets list.
2. It doesn't make any sense that City would back out at a 40m asking price for Mendy. That price is to be expected and he's our top priority at the slot. We have the resources to pull it off without question.
3. It's still early in the window.
4. We were always going to target two fullbacks on each side as we have no suitable cover there in our squad as it stands. This has been talked about for some time by various reputable sources and even hinted to by Guardiola.
Marti Perarnau does not have access to our transfer targets. Are you mad! :-)

His Champs League medal could suggest so?

People thought Alex Sandro was the type player you describe, yet he was dog shit the other night

Let's look at consistency rather than a one off - is he the sort of player we can rely on away at Arsenal and Liverpool?

I asked my question knowing full well he's already proven himself a winner in a Champions League final.

A Chelsea fan at work, who's opinion I value, regretted Chelsea letting him go, and wanted them to go back for him. Our chat was a few weeks back about transfer targets for this summer. He didn't want Lakaku back.

So it's a yes from me.

Another reason i want Bertrand is because, Mendy will take time to settle in England. Bertrand is already familiar with it, so he can have a smooth transition.

Bertrand will happen though imho.
I believe we have been working on this transfer for a while.
If Marti says it will happen someone within the inner circle has given him the nod and are happy for it to leaked.
To declare Marti has access to our transfer targets suggest he is in the inner circle, thats just crazy talk.
So much game playing by agents and the inner circle, they are the only ones who no for sure.

Not at all. We have a list of targets and he's seen it and, indeed, has known it for some time.

Unless you all want Kolarov at LB if Mendy is injured then 20M for Bertrand isn’t that bad.

The reactions to this deal have been disgraceful. Why is it that literally whenever we are linked to an English player no matter how good they actually are there's a corner of this forum that needs to shit on them. So tedious. Walker thread is proof positive as is this one.
