Not wanting to make this post any more stupid than it already is.

But, WHP.Blue. Whythenshawe did not become part of the City of Manchester until the mid 1930s. Prior to this it was a small village in rural Cheshire. Presumable everyone born prior to this date should be supprting Northwhich Victoria or Crewe maybe?

This post is completely daft. Some of City's biggest heartlands in East "Manchester" e.g. Hyde, Ashton, Droylsden are actually in Tameside. Likewise places in the south of the city e.g Heaton Chapel, Cheadle etc are actually in Stockport. Lets face it, the political boundaries of Greater Manchester are a bit of an anomaly and very different to the situation in other cities. Always thought it strange that you could be stood on Bridge Street in the City Centre, in spitting distance of the Town Hall, but be in a completely different city.

I did say last night that I was leaving this thread but I have to congratulate you Flixton on posting such complete and utter sense. Bravo.
so you are saying we should change our name to
greater manchester city then?

Of course i'm not suggesting that. I'm just trying to highlight that Manchester is a pretty strange city in that it is surrounded by boroughs that are effectively part of Manchester but are ruled by a different local government. As typified by that fact that Woodhouse Park is a pretty new addition to the City of Manchester and would have been part of Cheshire at the time Ardwick FC was renamed Manchester City.

Find it hard that you are having a pop at blues who were probably brought up / live closer to Maine Road / COMS than you but happen to pay their council tax to Salford, Trafford or Tameside. Lets face it, probably half of the people on here do not live in "Manchester" in its strictest sense.

i live in stockport im a massive city fan , and have been for 17 years so is all my family , wouldnt surprise me if when i was born we were either in the same division or even in a lower one than county , so i cant be a glory hunter , weve never won fuck all in the 17 years that ive supported city!

FlixtonBlue, have a read of my posts on pages 6 and 8 mate, it sheds proper light on the Wuthenshawe situation.
Or have a read of this :- <a class="postlink" href="http://www.wythit-heritagetrail.btik.com/p_The_5_year_war.ikml" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.wythit-heritagetrail.btik.co ... r_war.ikml</a>

I think some people may be being a bit short sighted here in some respects tbh saying this thread (or rather this particular topic of conversation) is a joke etc, it isn`t a very nice subject but whilst Sheikh Mansour is involved with the club it`s an almost certain guarantee that success will follow and with it this type of thing will be levelled at some fans (although I might add unfairly) so really you/we need to get used to it.

On the nail with that post... I for the first time in my 30 years supporting City was called a plastic by a group of Arsenal fans in a pub after cheering City's 4-2 win (they were most upset with me :-) )

Point is in all my previous time supporting City never, have I heard the word plastic used against me ( I have a southern accent) and obviously never the word 'glory hunter'.. In a wierd way it's an admission by opposing fans that City's plane is arriving and they just don't like it...

I think WHP is probably airing his concearns of what is going to happen to our expanding fan base in years to come but is currently arguing/discussing with the wrong group of people....

Cheers mate, I know exactly what you mean, my lad now lives out of Manchester in Chorley, but was born at Wythenshawe hospital, grew up for 11 years in Wythenshawe itself, is City mad with his shirts and tattoo`s, was there with me throughout the dark days in division 2 and 3 aswell yet recently has been called a glory hunting plastic etc etc by numerous people, I know he`s going to get plenty of sh1t for it over the next few years now as he lives in an area that`s full of Rags, Scouse and various forms of pie eating fans, he`s just gonna have to tough it out too.

It's a complicated issue when we talk about borders. If we go back in time, then City's home would have been part of the Salford Hundred. Would that makes us Salfordians? Scary thought ;) Boundaries have changed so much over the years. At what point in time do we say "this is the true border". It's a difficult debate.

My advice to others would be: use the 'border argument' when arguing with a Rag. Don't use it to have a pop at a Blue.

Peace

Using whp.blue's criteria we should tell the good folk of Grimsby that they are plastics as their ground is in Cleethorpes and should be now banned from ever watching them again until they move to Cleethorpes.

Dirty Harry, i've read your posts on page 8 and agree with all you say. I am not for one minute trying to say that people from Whythenshawe are johnny come lately Mancunians. Not at all.

All i'm trying to illustrate (this is where i think Manc in London has misread me) is that borders are essentially artificial. When people go about living their lives in and around Manchetser they don't give a shit where borders are. Do you think that when someone from Weaste or Swinton says "I'm going into town" all the people around him assume he is going to Salford Precinct. Of course they don't.

In actual fact i think WHP.Blue is just having a bit of fun with this post anyway and doesn't genuinely believe what he is posting. Just took offence at being called a "clown" i think.

Anyway, i'm fine. Born in Whytenshawe Hospital.

Is this shit still going on?

Im from a long line of City fans all born in Manchester. I myself was born in Stockport and have supported City all my life. Its in my family. I could have gone to County and watched them but id have been on my own and im not sure 6 year olds get to go to the football alone

I could not give a solitary shit what some no mark off the internet thinks about that.

Lets let it drop, the man (whp) clearly has issues

No that`s fair enough FB mate, thought it had been ignored in all the `squabbling` and just wanted to point out that Wythenshawe was a very unique situation :-), it sure is a complicated issue though like you say as the boundaries have changed so many times over the years, even the more recent changes to what is classed as `inner city`shows just how complicated it can be, I suppose this is probably the best advice though :-

My advice to others would be: use the 'border argument' when arguing with a Rag. Don't use it to have a pop at a Blue.

Peace
