ryan giggs to be given freedom of his clubs home city today

How on Gods earth could you describe any out of town City fan a glory hunter?
Glory hunter is a term used for people who follow teams only because they win things.
Every football team as supporters in differant parts of the country and they are true supporters.
The rags have an army of fans in London and to a lesser extent so do Liverpool. Why?
Could it be that they are the 2 most succesfull teams in the country or they don`t have alocal team?
They are glory hunters and that is why they are told to fuck off back to London.

I think some people may be being a bit short sighted here in some respects tbh saying this thread (or rather this particular topic of conversation) is a joke etc, it isn`t a very nice subject but whilst Sheikh Mansour is involved with the club it`s an almost certain guarantee that success will follow and with it this type of thing will be levelled at some fans (although I might add unfairly) so really you/we need to get used to it.

i can't believe i have read all the posts on this thread. it has gone the way of the other thread about whether uniteds ground is in the city of manchester. and you wonder why they call us bitters. for fucks sake. does it really matter that their ground is just outside the city of manchester boundaries? is that all we can come up with ffs? we like to say more city fans come from manchester than them. but apparantly according to some people any blue from say denton or swinton or failsworth is not from manchester. also our great city becomes a smaller place than say nottingham bradford or possibly even hull. and no i have not checked all these before some smartarse comes on and give the relevant populations all i know it that there are not that many people living in the hallowed city of manchester. to call all city fans from stockport oldham salford stretford etc. etc. not real mancs is so sad. this forum depresses me at times.

Not wanting to make this post any more stupid than it already is.

But, WHP.Blue. Whythenshawe did not become part of the City of Manchester until the mid 1930s. Prior to this it was a small village in rural Cheshire. Presumable everyone born prior to this date should be supprting Northwhich Victoria or Crewe maybe?

This post is completely daft. Some of City's biggest heartlands in East "Manchester" e.g. Hyde, Ashton, Droylsden are actually in Tameside. Likewise places in the south of the city e.g Heaton Chapel, Cheadle etc are actually in Stockport. Lets face it, the political boundaries of Greater Manchester are a bit of an anomaly and very different to the situation in other cities. Always thought it strange that you could be stood on Bridge Street in the City Centre, in spitting distance of the Town Hall, but be in a completely different city.

On the nail with that post... I for the first time in my 30 years supporting City was called a plastic by a group of Arsenal fans in a pub after cheering City's 4-2 win (they were most upset with me :-) )

Point is in all my previous time supporting City never, have I heard the word plastic used against me ( I have a southern accent) and obviously never the word 'glory hunter'.. In a wierd way it's an admission by opposing fans that City's plane is arriving and they just don't like it...

I think WHP is probably airing his concearns of what is going to happen to our expanding fan base in years to come but is currently arguing/discussing with the wrong group of people....

never said I was a better blue than anyone but ironic how it is ok to say this about rags but not city fans
just that being from Manchester has always been a sense of pride for manchester city fans and even the club themslves have played heavily on this over the years so as I said some fans may find this truth unpalatable and I will not resort to personal abuse because we do not share the same opinions and as for the term plastic and gloryhunter thse are universal footballing terms for fans who choose to support terms from other areas

Button it now, WHP. You've made your name on this offensive thread with the same boring re-hashed argument, just try redeeming yourself with some positive comments in future.
do one you clown

I did say last night that I was leaving this thread but I have to congratulate you Flixton on posting such complete and utter sense. Bravo.
