Ryder Cup 2025

I know money rules and nobody wants to burn their fingers in a big decision,
but imagine how the US will look like in 4 years?...

Don't we have enough top golfers in Canada, Aussie, NZ, SA, Japan for a more respectful "continental" competition holding up the right values which are more important than ever nowadays?

Europe wouldn't play such an event vs Russia or China in any sports.
The US have to make up their mind where they stand. (Well, they did.)

Ryder Cup has a great history, but times have changed.
I would give it a rest to show them it just doesn't work that way
until we get back to the honourable format it once was.
Never change it.There is no need.Times have not changed for this event.
Brilliant 3 days that had everything.

A lot of non New Yorkers on social media distancing themselves from the oiks who were at Bethpage Black. New Yorkers have a reputation for being gobby fuckers. It seemed to be far worse than Brookline or Kiawah Island.
I worked at JFK for 25+ years, and lived in Wantagh, about 15 mins from Bethpage, and played there countless times. There are plenty of really nice people on L.I., but as you say, it does have its fair share of 'gobby fuckers' indeed.

Aah! Exactly the appropriate kind of gesture I was hoping for. It does not surprise me it comes from Watson. He always struck me as one of the old-school Americans in sports, with a winner's mentality, but courteous and fair. (Nicklaus was another of that breed).
But I may be wrong, I didn't know that much about him.
Tom Watson is a pain in the ass (arse) (read A Good Walk Spoiled) but he’s 100 percent right and any American golfer with some gra(e)y hair on him/her agrees with him. The behavio(u)r wasn’t just appalling — it’s disgusting and embarrassing and I’m not the only Yank who was rooting for Europe because of it.

I personally think that — ideally — the Ryder Cup should be annual and include a ROW side, the one that plays the Presidents Cup v. the U.S. now. So now that Europe has won, the ROW team plays Europe for the next RC, and the winner in 26 would then face the USA, and so on. The Presidents Cup would then go away. Obviously then the problem becomes the venue with so much advance planning needed but only a year to select and prepare it. Does the holder always host or does the challenger, or should it simply rotate and whoever is in it gets lucky or unlucky on home, away or a neutral site? The Presidents Cup hasn’t really gained that much traction despite the quality of the ROW players nowadays.

Money rules in golf, that's why the European team virtually to a man play on the PGA tour. It's a shame that a deal hasn't been done with LIV, then we would get a true world tour rather than seeing the same generic courses in America.

Listening to the cunts cheering Trump, I knew it would descend into classless wanks, being classless, scummy, MAGA wanks.

The best thing? Preventing that sack of putrid shit, highjacking the awarding of the US the Cup.

I wonder how many of those "hard men" will travel to Ireland in two years? If they do, I hope they get fucking leathered. Like their shitebag hero, probably come down with bone spurs.

Well done to our lads. I fucking loved it.

They won't be do boisterous if they are hanging around Limerick at night.

I got an email from Bethpage this morning about tee times reopening that mentioned they still have Ryder Cup merchandise to move at a significant discount. No kidding.

Perhaps I should have said "A section of New Yorkers have a reputation....". I'm sure there are plenty of decent folk in the big apple. Not fair to tar you all with the same brush.

The losing team hosts the one in two years, always allowing two years prep.

It’s fine the way it is, no reason to change it, that would ruin one of the best 3 days of sport in any 2 years. American fans are cunts (many of them) but the Ryder Cup is still great sport, magnificent support in fact. The behaviour of the US supporters was appalling, but with their current president it ain’t getting any better

I think this shit started back in 99 when the US team invaded the green after Justin Leonard's putt and Olazabal still had to play
100% it did. I remember that very well. If Leonard had anything about him whatsoever he would have conceded the putt to Olazabal after the fucking yanks and their families had smashed the green’s surface up.

A disgraceful episode. Truly disgraceful.

No, no ........ that's OK Jim - what you said was absolutely fine ... I'm not American (born and raised in Heaton Moor in fact - could actually see Ric's house from my bedroom window!) Just worked/lived over there for 35+ yrs in BOS/JFK/LAX before moving down here. There is of course good & bad everywhere, but a gobby New Yorker does take some beating!

If its not all USA tat, buy it all and sell it on eBay Europe. We can discuss my commission later.
