Sacking Mancini... was there even a choice?

I think if United hadn't choked and allowed us to steal the PL from them last season he would have been sacked then - the team were already struggling to produce the early season form.

If we get Pellegini and I really hope we do, then I think we will see what this squad is really capable of.

of course there was a choice

this is a huge gamble

hopefully it will pay off but the new managers CV and in particular his sole success in europe being an inter-toto cup a decade ago, does not inspire a huge amount of confidence or indeed much justification for giving Bobby the push

United choked and we stole it then! Perhaps we should apologise or the prem should put an asterix next to our name on the cup.
We beat them twice - thrashed them and played the best football. United lost matches - like we did this year.

Paint it anyway you like but after the Arsenal game in which we were woeful very few City fans thought we had any chance. United lost to us, Wigan and drew with Everton which enabled us to claw back the 8 point deficit by winning all our games.

We managed to put that run together to snatch it but the writing was well and truly on the wall with how the team was playing. In my honest opinion had Utd got a draw at Wigan or we had failed to beat QPR (which of course almost happened) then Mancini may well have been sacked. This season has just continued the pattern that was set in the second part of last season.

You choose to say we snatched out greatest achievement then if you want. I'll look at the footaball we played, the goals we scored and the resiliance and fight we showed at the end of the season when it mattered. I wish we had continued the pattern - that comment of yours is plain wrong or at best misleading.

My view is that we got lucky but I still believe we deserved that luck. I also think the points you highlight - the football we played and the resilience we showed - point to us winning the PL again with the core of the same squad, albeit under a better Manager (M. Pellegrini)

I, for one, am really looking forward to next season

You are clearly a Pellegrini man - but you don't have to disrespect Mancini's achievements in order to back your man. Even us "inners" accept it's over and hope whoever comes in is the right choice. But - tell me - why are you so totally convinced that Pellegrini will be the right choice - based on what? I acknowledge he is a decent manager or we wouldn't be entertaining him - but why (as you have posted elsewhere) so sure he'll win us the title next year??
Based on hope or on an insight we don't have?

I mean no disrespect to Bob but the facts are there for all to see. I actually like the guy and took a long time to become an 'outer' but the turgid football being played by what I believe is the best team in the PL pushed me there eventually.

My belief for next season is built on 3 things. I am not itk.

1. My belief in our squad. They are capable of great resilience and of playing fantastic football.
2. Pellegrini, from what everyone says about him, seems to be a manager who gets the best out of people.
3. I am an optimist

I will forever be grateful to Roberto Mancini for turning City into winners but I do believe his work was done it was time for him to move on.

P.S. I do not want Maureen who I think may struggle second time around at Chelsea

Fair enough.

But your optimism isn't based on anything tangible - just hope. Nothing wrong with that - you need hope if you're a City fan. I think you are right about Mancini's work being done - but I think his work was done with certain players who weren't prepared to have such a hard and at times harsh task master. Manager unpopularity with factions of players isn't always a bad thing if you allow the manager to weed out the one's who won't accept demands for excellence. Perhaps you are also right that the players will respond to a more populist approach - but this method may be good in the short term a la Redknapp and Keegan, but tends to paper over the cracks longer term.

With respect I think we've established that Mancini's way is also only workable short term.

Also, the notion that Pellegrini is some wimpy populist manager is ridiculous. At Villareal when he arrived their hero in the team was Riquelme. Their most influential player and their most popular. However he didn't put the work in in training and didn't follow instructions and was quickly dropped and then sold.

Generally managers aren't so binary that they're either ruthless dictators or player doormats.
