Yes but that mistake there that Given made was well bad luck
That wasn't bad luck, it was piss-poor, schoolboy goalkeeping.

I assume Given was promptly dropped for the next game?

Look I've said nothing really pro Given, I think Hart's a good keeper and is doing really well, I've said that he shouldn't have been dropped after that blunder but Given should have gotten that mid week game, it wouldn't have been dropping him, it would have been resting him along with most other starting players, and I can see what has frustrated Given because I think up untill that point he was pretty content, or more so than now.

Some people on here clearly don't like Given, that's their opinion whatever, my only point was that I can see were Given's change in mood has come from.

I have nothing against Given at all. But he, especially, should appreciate that when a young goalkeeper makes a mistake like Joe did, he needs to get straight back into the saddle. Mancini didn't pick Joe against Salzburg because he was scared about the media's reaction, he picked him again because it was the exact right thing to do for Joe's confidence.

It is quite clear that Joe Hart is now our No. 1 and Shay Given is our No. 2. I completely understand why that upsets Shay, but unfortunately for him that's just the way it is. As such, what is best for Joe Hart is Mancini's priority, not what is best for Shay Given. That's the way it goes for No. 2 goalkeepers; just ask Steve Harper.

I accept that Shay Given is too good to be a No. 2 and it's best he moves on in January if that's not the role he wants, because chopping and changing the goalkeeper between competitions isn't the way forward, especially when one of the keepers in question needs to get as many games as possible under his belt, and especially when said goalkeeper has just made a howler.

Mancini was absolutely right to show faith in Joe Hart by sticking with him. He didn't need resting; he needed playing so that he could move on from the mistake against Blackburn.

..will fall out over this but if RM has to do it then he would have my support.

I don't understand why Shay gives an interview with the Sunday Times less than four weeks after he had a chance to go on loan and with three months before the next window. He can't go anywhere but the Championship and I don't think we will help with his wage.

Listen Shay. Get your arse in gear and put away your petty squabbles, please.

Given will work and work hard but I think the tipping point for all of this was after Hart's game costing mistakes Given was sure and he said that he thought he'd play and Mancini played Hart, leaving Given knowing that no matter how good he is or how poor Hart is, no matter what he does, he wont get a game.

According to Given he wasn't allowed to leave in the window, two people saying different things here and I don't know, but Given's not one to cause a strop either. He'll work hard but it's clearly very demoralising to realise that no matter what he does it wont matter and he said to know what the manager thinks of him is frustrating because he's not done a lot wrong since he joined the club.
Can't help but agree with him on this. Mancini is leaving him out in the cold, he isn't rotating him and Hart which would only be fair, especially if we're forcing him to stay, he deserves a go and a chance to fight for his place. I think Mancini is dealing with this really badly.

You don't drop a player because of one mistake, on that basis should we have dropped Tevez after the Sunderland howler which also cost us points?

If Hart makes a series of mistakes then yes he will be dropped but dropping a player after one mistake is not going to do Hart's confidence any good and isn't good for team morale.

My original post was to urge Shay to be a bit more professional about things and resolve any differences in the Club and not the national press. I wasn't comparing his peformances with Joe Hart because I am not in charge of team selection.

He came for "the project" (his very words) but surely he cannot be niaive enough to think that he was an automatic selection? Either he is with us or agin us and we know what RM does with players who don't want to play and discuss it outside the dressing room. He doesn't suffer fools badly and I am sure Shay is not a fool.

When Hughes was sacked, there was rumours that several players went to Garry Cook to voice their opinions. Along with Bellamy, I'm pretty sure Given was one of them.

Another of Hughes' men, Santa Cruz, appears to have been frozen out.

We have to back RM on this one. Can't have anyone undermining him.

This is exactly what I think it is. One by one, Hughes's men are being ousted.

If that's what it takes for the club to be successful, then so be it.

Although I do seem to remember hearing that Gaz Baz was one of those who led the charge to Cooky when Hughes got sacked, and yet he's a Mancini favourite. Maybe it has just as much to do with these guys behaviour and attitude to Mancini in training SINCE then? We don't know what goes on behind the scenes.

This is all true. We happen to be in an extremely fortunate position of having two goalkeepers, any one of which could walk into any premier league side (and a good many others) and be welcomed with open arms. Sorry someone has to lose. Get over it Shay.

Shay made very few mistakes last season and Mancini declared he was one of 'the top 5 goalkeepers in the world ' in his opinion. Most fans agreed back then. I am not questioning Harts ability as I believe he is a fantastic goalkeeper. However we are only a month into the season so lets not get carried away.Hart has already made one stupid arrogant mistake. I sit in the family stand with my son and we were both speechless as to what on earth he was playing at. People say its great the confidence he has, but I feel he has a lot to learn. He made a big mistake that I believe cost us 2 points. During the warm up that day he threw a strop and swore this I felt was not called for due to the fact there were many children already seated in the family stand. He was like a big kid and shoved past the goal keeper coach.I believe Shay has the experience we still need and his decision making through experience is much better. I believe this will come to light as the season goes on whether or not Shay leaves in January. I struggle to understand why Mancini is so concerned about what the papers say . Also I feel we have a big communication problem at the moment with him and player. If you have watched the video from yesterday post West Brom, He had to turn to ask what was wrong with Shay on Monday.... His toe was the answer he should know this himself he is the manager.
