He's just not good enough for us

Not trying to be adversarial here, even though I completely disagree, but who would you have us sign? Is that person going to be content with playing second fiddle to Zabba? And how much will they cost us?

I'm open to the idea there are better options than Sagna, I'm just stuck trying to think of one. Top 5 RB in the league this season and available for free.

Exactly

We can sign a younger player on lower wages, say 70k instead of 100k. He will have to be unproven to get wages that low. And even if we do, a difference of 30k over a 3-year contract is only 4.6m. The fee for a quality young right back will be at least 3x that. And good luck finding a young player willing to sit behind Zabaleta.

I confess that I haven't read all of this thread, but where has the idea that we are going to pay him £100K p/w come from? I know that that is what he reportedly wanted from Arsenal, but do we know for a fact that we have offered him that? Given our move toward incentive based contracts, I would have expected us to offer him significantly less than £100K, perhaps with a signing on fee and bonuses.

Very good player IMO, would be an excellent signing.

Re: Sagna

It will be me a minimum of 100k a week,as he apparently turned down the new deal of 70k at Arsenal, that's the reason he's coming, and that reason only

It's just a rumour, but reported in just about every article. Apparently he turned down 80k and Arsenal say that's as high as they will go. We're tempting him with 100k and the chance for trophies.

Fair enough but I would be amazed if we were offering that sort of wage to a back up RB of his age, particularly now that we have the FFP limitations to deal with. There are plenty of other reasons, financial and non financial, to choose us over Arsenal.

He is on a free, how much would a similar player cost with his experience in the premier? You would be paying a fee of around 7m what we payed for Clichy plus wagers what wouldn't be less than 80k

100k a week for back up RB is too much imo.

Are Clichy and Kola 'backups' ? Pellers would use Zab and Sagna in the same way.

Some of the thinking on here would make Shrek look like Einstein.
