Samir Nasri - Silver Lining

Thought he was excellent last night. Took responsibility, wanted the ball and did well when he got it.

Hope Silva is back soon, but this is a real opportunity for him to stake his claim.

I thought Nasri was a lot better last night. He seemed to take responsibility in the second half and was the only one who looked like making anything happen in midfield. Hopefully we'll start to see the Nasri of old in the coming weeks.

Aside from Richard's performance, it was the one positive to take out of last night's game.

When Samir came on the game dynamic changed which was also helped by the change in formation. He was looking for the ball more but when he got it there was a lack of options at times which didn`t help him.Kept going to the end and needs to start against Wigan if Silva is not available.

Nasri aint good enough. He has zero aggression, directness or penetration. He dwells on the ball and doesn't play 'killer' passes. He's to 'sideways' in his approach.

To easy to deal with IMHO.

But you couldn't really level that at him on his Arsenal performances last season. So whilst you may have a point on what we have seen from him so far at City, this is presumably about current form rather than ability. And we need him to find some form quickly now Silva is out because he is the only player in the squad who has the potential to come close to replacing Silva's creativity.

I see your point Lancet but to be brutally honest I couldn't care less about how he looked at arsenal or his potential. He's a grown man so the potential should be realised by now and he plays for city not arsenal. He, like one or two others (Dzeko, Kolarov) simply aren't good enough for the level we are looking to be at IMHO.

I really think with Nasri he needs to play more.

For me he is clearly a confidence and continuity player who needs to play week in week out.

I'd rather have him starting that Johnson at the moment to be fair.

IMO......

TBH i thought Johnno put in a decent shift last night (comparative to his usual)

Yes, better in the "shift" sense. But on the other hand more of a waste of space in the "useful footballer" sense.

He's normally idle but dangerous. Last night he worked a bit harder but was crap.

You have to leave Dzeko out of this. And to put him in the same parentheses as Kolorov is ridiculous. Dzeko is clearly a top striker who, maybe like Nasri, is struggling with not player 90 minutes in every game.

I believe one of the problems is we expect nasri to be like silva, for me he is very different . For me he is more of the hod carrier somewhere inbetween a Barry and a silva. He can pick the ball up carry and distribute like Barry, but is a bit nimbler and can make things happen in and around the box.

At his best , start of last season, he was very much playing the Barry role for arsenal, picking the ball up deep from the centre halves and dictating the play. His form dipped when cesc came back from injury and song was preferred along side him so Samir was push wider. We have really only played him wide this season and I am not sure that is his best position.

Last night I thought he was given a bit more of a free role to do what he does best but was lacking a bit of confidence.

Nasri was one of the few pluses last night. Showed flashes of what he's capable of and like has been said he took resonsibility. Encouraging

nasri was excellent last night, when he had the ball there were hardly any options around him but he did well to keep hold of it until there was, and to the people calling him a shit bag, not every player has to be as hard as nails does he? no one calls Silva a shitbag for not gettin stuck in, that's just not the type of player nasri is.
